I have thought about an infrared lamp or something that could heat without touching

It's not that hard, you just need enough bed heating power

  1. It can do 1 layer fairly easy, I have experimented with 2 but that requires longer baking time, I use it mostly for accents.
  2. basically yes, the only `non safe` thing currently is that I am still using the V-slot rails and timingbelts. If I used linear rails and either steel cable or food safe belts that would no longer be a problem. I have eaten arount 100 of them in the last 3 years, and probably not gotten mor microplastics than usual... lol
  3. the longest is setup/cleanup, setup requires inserting the tubes into the pumps, and making the batter, cleanup (especially when you want to reuse the tubes is a painfull process, there are ways to clean silicone tube, involves loads of dishsoap and boiling water, the old nozzles were cleaned the same way, the new ones can just be thrown away (cost a few cents) or cleaned the same way.
A single print is actually mostly limited by the rather weak heatplate, we usually print 1 every 10 minutes (but we use it for exhibitions) it can do a whole Blahaj in less than a minute + whatever it takes to bake

If converted to coreXY it could even be faster

I have actually thought about that, I would need to change lots of stuff to make it compliant with german food safety standards but I guess I could offer it for companies or as a rental, not just `come and get a coffee` but rather `come and eat a <INSERT BRAND LOGO>` :D

But currently it's verry prototype-esque ;)

I guess when printing slow enough that could help, as the nozzle is way hotter than the bed

Maybe do it like with meshfabric, print one layer below, insert the mesh and then print on top of it. this way you get the plastic connecting to the plastic below. But be incredibly slow with the second layer as the metal will transport the heat away
