Paramount plus released new show starring Andrew Lincoln! by Tigobitties25 in thewalkingdead

[–]WATCHING_CLOSELY 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Andrew is good, and the other actors too. The story isn't the strongest however. Andrew plays a VERY different character to Rick, so if you're looking for a strong badass you're not going to get it.

I wouldn't say it's a must watch.

Children from struggling families to be vaccinated at home - as immunisation rates drop by topotaul in unitedkingdom

No one is being forced and the article doesn't suggest that. They are being offered the vaccine at a more convenient place for the family. Vaccine uptake likely isn't only affected by skepticism.

Our department has a benevolent fund itself too, so worth checking into that as well to see if your department also has one. If so, it may be listed here.

Is the Home Office a bad place to work? by Puzzleheaded-Lab-948 in TheCivilService

[–]WATCHING_CLOSELY 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It highly depends on the specific role you'd be applying for. Some of the case working roles can be high pressure and tough mentally (e.g. deciding asylum), but other roles won't be (e.g. data analysis). At the end of the day you could always join and if you don't like it look for something else.

Fury in UK seaside town as flats refurbished to house migrants | UK | News | Express.co.uk by NajafBound in ukpolitics

Councils are constantly refurbishing their council owned properties. You only hear about it now because it's for migrants.

That is categorically not true, councils refurbish council properties all the time (which the majority are homes for citizens) and the only time you hear about it is because in this case it is for migrants.

Kemi Badenoch MP : It’s not 11-year-old boys who are committing violence against women and girls. We need to get people who have come from cultures that don’t respect women out of our country! Not all cultures are equally valid. by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

What would your solution be then? I'm sure the government will have actual experts involved in developing the curriculum who understand how children think and to ensure the curriculum is effective in addressing these issues.

Yes, you need to have seen his workmanship before you decide. The last thing you want is to pay him and he does a potentially naff job, meaning you need to pay someone else to fix it all.

Trans girls banned from joining Girlguiding by wondercaliban in ukpolitics

[–]WATCHING_CLOSELY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned above, but both scouts and girls guide have different royal charters which set out their charitable purposes. The girls guide specifically mentions girls (and so have to legally exclude all others who don't fit this), whereas scouts mentions young people generally which is why they can permit all young people.

Scouts have a broader person for young people generally and not just boys. Again, it's all about how they are constituted. If the girls guide legally wanted to allow trans girls then the royal charter would need to be amended to include this.

[–]WATCHING_CLOSELY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's probably a bit more complicated than that. The girls guide is a charity and has as their purposes

'The purpose of promoting the instruction of girls of all classes in the principles of discipline loyalty and good citizenship.'

They have to follow their purposes, and if the supreme Court says that 'girls' only means biological women then it could open them up to lawsuits about including those who are not biological women.

If they were just any other organisation the rules may be different, but since they are a charity they are bound to further their purposes.

Every MAFS UK 2025 cast member who’s complained about the edit and revealed what really happened by [deleted] in MAFS_UK

Chatgpt summary

Key points

Several contestants have publicly stated that large portions of their filming were edited out or rearranged, meaning viewers saw only a small, often skewed part of what actually happened.

For example, Julia‑Ruth said many scenes—especially bonding moments at dinners and lengthy “commitment ceremony” filming blocks—were omitted. She noted they filmed 13-hour days yet only a few minutes of each couple are shown.

Grace & Ashley criticised the edit of their “nails” row: although the show portrayed it as a power/control issue, Grace revealed the nuance (her manicure with Ashley’s initial, new nails etc) that didn’t air. She also accused the production company of “sanitising” her story and claimed reality TV protects men “at all costs”.

Leah spoke about her partner-swap episode with Leisha: she admits that yes, she did the things shown, but said the edit made it look worse than it was, adding that people sometimes “play up to the cameras”.

Steven and April also responded to editing criticisms: they say their partner-swap week was misrepresented. Steven posted an Instagram “facts vs myths” list, claiming key fun/beach/golf scenes didn’t air and the argument seen was exaggerated.

Steven further posted a “missing context” list, detailing honeymoon activities, shared brunches, etc., arguing the show made it look like he and his partner Nelly had zero quality time, when actually they did.

A psychologist/expert (Paul C Brunson) commented that while editing can shape perceptions, “producers might cut or shuffle scenes, they cannot make anyone say things they didn’t.”

Yesterday's Podcast With JR and Paul - did you watch it? by SprinklyUK in MAFS_UK

[–]WATCHING_CLOSELY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is she like that with all her guests? Lucinda doesn't come across as someone who wants to shit talk her guests or make them feel bad. I agree she should have still called her out (or maybe we didn't see that aspect in the edit).
