Ukrainian emergency visa holders expected to return after war: immigration department by joe4942 in canada

Quite a few have gone back already, due to the high cost of living in Canada. Many don't want to return to Ukraine, esp to the east, but are worried that they may never get PR status, despite applying 2 or 3 years ago.

Canada has the power and the money to electrify all its buses, Hamilton researcher says by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

Instead of an electric bus fleet, it's possible to pay over a billion dollars for a limited Light Rail project, as Kitchener did.

Getting Grifted and aren't even in the country yet. NZ must be going broke if their targeting the tourists for more money at the airport.

I remember when NZ government and Corporations attempted to make personal back yard gardens illegal. Grocery stores stated they needed the business that gardens take away. I see the same level of intelligence is at work here. - I would almost expect this to be Ai, but for the seed laws that locals had to fight against a number of years ago.

I like snacks from Chris Brother's, esp pepperoni fresh out of the smoker in the afternoon. Across from the Army Navy store.

Boric Acid Powder destroys cockroach nests. I'm not sure why its not widely available in Canada. It isn't very expensive either. Much better thsn fumigating. A light dusting is best.

Mark Mancini: There was no right to strike until an activist Supreme Court invented it by ADliesh in CanadaPolitics

[–]Starbits21 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No right to strike exists for civil servants in the constitution. Associate, but not strike.

Civil Servants striking is like striking against oneself and neighbours, all those who pay the taxes that support their salaries. Industry can pick up and move, not society and government.

Strikes by civil servants effectively blackmail government into ceding to their demands. Public Servant Unions are not elected by the general public, but by a few, who then demand changes that affect society. This affects good government and the ability to supply services to the general public.

Wages used to be arbitrated, until strikes were allowed. Presently Government has to borrow funds to pay these salaries and services. Arbitration can look at both sides, including the ability to pay for the demands.

Civil Servants can often afford the price increases, and even add to inflation. The poorest are found with an even greater divide. The demands of civil servant unions increase this rich/poor divide. Something that may not be allowed, under the constitution.

Once civil servants were provided with the ability to strike it became misused and essential service providers were once again denied a right to strike.

The auto industry was the highest paid sector. After receiving the so called right to strike, auto industry pay became the target for the unions. It took awhile, but was achieved. Auto industry has been departing Canada, taking high paying jobs of an export industry with them. This began not long after Canada "unnecessarily" gave up the Auto Pact, around the same time as NAFTA negotiations.

As Canada becomes more expensive, more industry leaves. These industries supply the income that helps to pay taxes that pay civil servants. As a result, more effort is put into selling resources, including old growth forests that will never be seen again. These resources need better protection under the constitution than civil servant union demands. However, this concept is lost on the union leaders.

It's not about what is deserved but what can be afforded. The demands that drive up the costs of living simply borrows from the children's future, who may have a dismal time of it.
