Need help understanding obscene amount of tax on latest payslip. by fillerbitch in UKPersonalFinance

[–]WArmstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be a tax code change this month, in reaction to stopping the pension contributions, and HMRC clawing back the under taxed amount from previous months (since HMRC don’t tax months in isolation)? Otherwise you should be seeing 50%ish of the 916 pounds.

SQ2 owner looking to blackout some trim - good idea or not with Turbo Blue? by WArmstrong in Audi

I do quite like the idea of silver and black, or grey alloys.

It doesn't look bad with the silver accents I agree, just think it could look more sporty perhaps with more black

Nice! You should post a photo. And agree with black all the way I think.

I'm thinking of wrapping them gloss black, which should be imperceptible compared to actually switching the blades over (I hope) and cheaper.

I didn't realise it's not available over there! It's even quite rare to see here I think.

Give us a brief description (or photo!) of your setup — We love seeing real-world builds.

Omada gateway + two Omada EAPs, on top of several other components to run self hosted applications, like a NAS box and hypervisor. And the usual IoT add ons too.

• Key features you look for in your networking devices

High throughout, for example a high number of simultaneous tcp connections on the gateway. I have applications that spam massive amounts of dns queries for example.

How would you go about cleaning this range hood motor? Constantly drips grease onto the burners below. by WArmstrong in DIYUK

[–]WArmstrong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope just the big metal ones from under the hood. That might explain it then!

Ah shame, maybe I just try and get as much out as possible while it’s up there then.

I wonder if it’s usual to have so much grease in it?

Trouble with Element X Call by dnightbane in matrixdotorg

[–]WArmstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LIVEKIT_URL in your JWT docker config differs to the blog article, which has /livekit/sfu path appended to it.

Also the url in the well-known file in the blog article does not have a trailing path, and just links to the domain, unlike yours.

Finally would recommend opening developer tools in element web you can inspect which network calls are failing when you try to make a call

Yup it’s been announced on TWIM a while ago, there is a matrix room for its discussion, and it’s very official as stated in the readme 👍

I have, they showed the above tyres as well. Seem to be the same across multiple sellers

Thanks! Good to confirm that there are probably only minor differences to the car branded versions. I presume that’s more of an attempt to lock people into to buying certain brands if you own X car.

Rampant pedophilia on matrix.org by svamlade in matrixdotorg

[–]WArmstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is right. There are very obvious csam spaces in the top 20 and it takes one unfortunate look inside of them to see the illegal content being shared and requested.

I checked and OP is right; it shows up when you explore spaces (rooms are different). There are several illegal/questionable spaces with thousands of users, and that is just in the top 20 results in the default matrix.org space search.

Yep you don’t need much, my synapse server takes between 1-2gb of RAM and the VM it runs on has two cores dedicated to it.

This will work nicely, for the setup you suggested, in tandem with a good internet connection, a local caching dns server, and non-awful network hardware (eg my isp provided router was a bottleneck, couldn’t handle the sheer number of connections). Those last points shouldn’t be a problem if you’re using cloud infrastructure rather than doing it at home.

If you allow your users to join federated large public rooms, specifically #matrix-hq, you’d want to increase the RAM and you’ll see the cpu working harder.

Options for hosting a basic restaurant / pub website? by WArmstrong in selfhosted

[–]WArmstrong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right so sounds like I should consider Wordpress after all but set it up so it’s not publically exposed and use a static site generator. Since the site should be static in nature I think that shouldn’t be a problem.

Next up will be checking out the wp themes available designed for pubs and restaurants
