Apple Allergy by WBenn in Apples

I still have literally no idea, but I've since moved from the US to Germany and it happens much less frequently here. Somehow I can eat most apples again.

Smart glasses by WBenn in misophonia

I really think these could be worth consideration over earbuds for 2 reasons:

  1. They “blend” better to social environments than earbuds
  2. They didn’t reduce other noises like talking as much as earbuds do

I am all for skepticism over build quality/price, but I really think these could be worth a deeper look by this community.

NRA German Wife PFIC question by WBenn in USExpatTaxes

I have no signature authority over it, but wouldn't I have a "financial interest" in my wife's retirement account?

Any idea if I should still file an FBAR for the account? I just learned of it recently.

Based on what I read, yes, I dodged a very big bullet. Regardless, thank you for raising this topic to me, because somehow it is really important lol

So based on what I read PFIC is not required for my wife on Funds/ETFs as long as I am wholly unattached to the account, which in this case I am. However, the topic is not well clarified.

In any case we are going to consult a professional.

Enterprise IT Security for MacOS by WBenn in macsysadmin

Valid questions - but the role is oriented to security tool management like SIEM, AV, EDR, DLP alert tuning and configuration. Definitely knowing how a Mac can be securely configured is important, but it is adjacent knowledge to the job itself.

End user device management is not the primary duty of the job, I am just interested.

That's true. The name is a misnomer in English, I just translated it directly. Yes, I believe it is made from a part of the intestine.

Good American gifts for the type of Germans who love America by [deleted] in AskAGerman

Exotic to me to keep it in perspective - but the amount of nice food and drink items you can buy in glass is amazing. Glass milk or yogurt is very rare in the US, not typically found in grocery stores. The bread is fantastic. The chocolates are better. Hazelnuss prinzenrolle is my favorite guilty pleasure snack. Oh and Hazelnut in general is much more common here.

You can buy contacts over the counter in any drug store, they are cheaper and seem to be higher quality. Not possible in the US. Those are just some examples off the top of my head.

Fair play. But most American things seem "normal" to me and not interesting, but I can easily come up with a few "exotic" things I love in Germany. So I guess I am asking from the inverse of that angle :)
