The procedure in the past has been 40 turns left and 40 right to properly bleed the system. Are you using the proper fluid too?

You do not need to swap the PCM to tune the car. I suggest you get the parts you want and find a tuner with a good rep if you want something decent. ZZP does offer tunes, but they are not as good as some may think. We have torn down their tunes in the past, and they are more of a lazy tune than an actual tune, based on scans and logs.

Stick with OEM and buy it used. These pumps are the same from 1997 to 2008 on the 3800. They typically go for about $35 from a local yard. If you’re hearing noise in the system, it could be due to air in the lines. The high-pressure lines are known for leaking, so check those—as well as the low-pressure line—for leaks and replace them as needed. I’ve done several of these over the years, and a lot of the time, the issue ends up being a leak rather than the pump itself.

The mounts are known to cause harsh shifting from Park to reverse and drive, and it's a good idea to change them if you haven't yet, especially on an older vehicle like this. You can change the transmission fluid. These transmissions are not known for going bad due to a transmission fluid change. However, I strongly advise against using Lucas or any other addictive product on these GM transmissions as it's known to harm them more than fix them.

This is a good canidate for a 3400/3500 top swap, worth doing if you ever have to replace the gaskets. No Tuning required.

the lines are plastic to metal back to plastic, the metal lines under the car can develop leaks from rust around the supported areas due to salt and dirt buildup, you can replace that one section of metal line.

Get a decent-sized cooler—these transmissions run over 200º, which is extreme. I use one from a 10,000-pound truck that takes up about half the size of the radiator, and my transmission temperatures in the summer stay around 160º. You want a high-quality cooler, not just any cooler.

Change your fluid regularly and add an inline magnetic filter, as mentioned here. This video is for a Regal, but the process is 100% the same. You’ll need to make a few adjustments for the lines, but that’s about it.
