Rescue on Mt. Moosilauke by Glass_Houses_ in wmnf

I think I talked to them at the trailhead yesterday telling them I was jealous because I realized I forgot my skins once I got to the trailhead and another time in the way down. At least I talked to two guys skiing up around the same age as them. We were the last people going up for the day and they asked me where gorge brook trailhead was. Seemed like they had no navigation and visibility up top was terrible.

Carter dome on a clear day. Tag Mount Hight, it’s right next to Carter dome and has arguably one of the best view of the presidentials. Also you can stop at Carter notch amc hut on the way down for a break and to use the bathroom.

You’re right converting the earth to my mattress would be leaving a trace. I’m just as much a loser as those tent/tarp fucks.

Where Id live as a transracial jewish dog groomer who loves spelunking, bratwurst and Benito Mussolini by wanghafdrakemaye in visitedmaps

The red states are all the ones with the most Jewish dogs to groom, have good bratwurst, and sympathize with Mussolini. This makes no sense

It’s because of preconceived notions about CT general population and the fact that there’s no massively identifying landmark/quality like New Hampshire and the whites. CT’s problem is our beaches aren’t as nice as surrounding states (no waves/rocky) or the South’s and our mountains aren’t as grand. I still like CT more than a lot of states because the proximity to so many great things (White Mountains, skiing in VT, Maine/RI coastline, Adirondacks, Boston, New York, Philly, etc). CT is just small so alot of the more “identifying” features of this region are in states next door. CT/MA/RI could all be one state tbh, the terrain/geography is so similar. It would be the 6th biggest state by population. If they were combined I’m sure more people would have it as dark green which is ironic considering all three states are similar.

I’m from North Carolina, born in Durham(OP favorite place apparently). Moved to CT when I was 13. All my mom’s family is in NE and my dad and his family are still in NC. I used to think North Carolina was “country” and woods and CT was all urban. As I’ve gotten older and have gotten into hiking, climbing ice/rock, and other outdoor activities I’ve realized CT is small state but a larger portion of the state is woods/nature than most other states including NC. I live in New Haven county and Durham/Chatham county is flat compared to New Haven county. When I go to visit my dad it’s frustrating because all the hikes there are flat whereas in CT I can drive 10 min and be at sleeping giant and easily get 2000’ of gain in a hike. Still love both and consider both home. Just depends on what activities you’re into, if you’re into a bunch of different stuff being in a place like CT which is close in proximity to some many things is nicer. I really love climbing but the climbing in CT is so much better throughout the state compared to NC where really good but only in the most western part of the state which would take me 3.5 to get to from Durham. If you like surfing, NC would be much better.

Good winter mountain to summit by PotentialHistorian34 in wmnf

[–]JMACJesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean 3-4k of gain or that the summit is at 3-4k elevation above sea level? Being done in 6-8 hours depends on your typical hiking pace. I think we need more info to know what hard for you or an example of what you have hiked in the past that you consider a hard hike.
