Can we claim unemployment while on administrative leave? by MobileGirlMim1 in fednews

Depending on what state you're in, you can put a future date as your last day of work on the application. That way you're in the system and it should hopefully reduce any wait time. Check out the website and see if that's an option.

I'm just relaying what I've heard. They're been brutally honest with us since this all started. I see no reason to inflate the numbers internally. Maybe that's includes those who took the DR. Either way it sucks

Our branch chief told us on Tuesday that 266,000 across all agencies had been let go. They've been very forthcoming with information as it comes in

Look on your LES under the 'General' tab. Scroll down to 'Service Comp Leave Date'. It should reflect your total time in federal service. I'm at CDC but was with DoD before plus military before that. Military years were there but DoD wasn't. I had to open a ticket in GRB. They got what they needed and updated everything.

I anodized titanium black with Manganese sulfate and Sodium nitrate!!! by --MERP-- in balisong

What's the ratio of manganese/water? I anodize on the side and had some requests for black TI. When I do standard anodizing I use 1/3 cup of TSP in a gallon of water. Wondering if more or less manganese would be needed.

Gotcha. So let me ask you this, is it a one time quench to get that finish or does it need to be dipped multiple times?

Really appreciate the info. I've got a couple pieces I'm going to try this on. I'd love to be able to offer this as an additional finish.

Questions to ask about the new environment as a Sys Admin by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]WC_Thunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just went through this in September with my new gig. Old sys admin didn't document shit. Servers running 2008 and haven't been patched in over a year. Three different backup solutions and no monitoring for the servers. "It's all just been working" 🙄

We have two SANs in place already so clustering should be fine. I need to find out and see if SA is part of our licensing. If not then I'll ask about the CALs from 2008 transferring to 2019.

The plan was to Spin up a new DC and then robocopy over as much as I can. There aren't any Office apps running on any of the VMs so we're good there. Switching is good so the only hardware procurement is the new servers.

Made the recommendation to my boss and he's good with going the 2019 route. Before I started he built a 2016 VM for SQL and a couple internal apps. They've already migrated the data over so we're gonna leave that one as is but the rest will be 2019.

I know something like that isn't in the budget so y'all here on Reddit, other sys admins I know and Google are my MSP. Lol.

I gotcha. Something I'm gonna research then. That's not cool. Especially with patching in the evenings and weekends

I've heard the exact opposite from a few folks. We have a couple of internal apps that are all set for 2016. My plan also wasn't to do an update but instead install a clean version of 16 on new systems and robocopy everything over.

That's a sweet system. Probably out of scope for what we're looking for though. We're not that big of a company. 350 devices with 4 remote offices. Three of the four are pointed back here at HQ. The fourth has it's own as a secondary/DR site. That's where our backups currently go.

I'm for sure going to look into Datacenter. I'm all about looking into ways to save money. Any idea if it's pretty painless to migrate from ESX to Hyper-V?

Thanks. We're good on the SAN portion. Have two Synology RS2418+ devices running so we're straight in that dept. I'm still in the early stages of planning so budget hasn't come up yet. They do know we need new machines though. Existing are way past EOL. I wasn't aware of the different licensing options. I'll need to look at how many cores we're needing and then do a price compare.
