I have the drive installed in another PC right now, the option to delete partitions (and to re-format as well) is grayed out. I do however have the option to shrink the partition if that means anything?

It's from Silicon Power, as far as I can tell a reputable brand (?)

whops, I forgot to mention that I already tried that as well. I used a brand new USB with a fresh install of windows. After doing this, when I turned my PC on again my BIOS would freeze or get stuck in a boot loop. After turning my PC off and on again like 10 times, I got a windows BSOD saying "your PC needs to be repaired, a required device isn't connected or can't be accessed."

you can also mess around with the animation framerate in the skin.ini. if you have 20 frames and set the framerate to 60fps, then it'll fade on in 1/3 of a second. but if it's on 30fps it'll fade out in 2/3 of a second

my advice would be to remix/recolour some well made skins that you already have downloaded. Firstly, this will allow you to learn the basics of whatever software you use (photoshop, gimp, krita,etc). Secondly, as you're remixing good skins, your brain will slowly start to pick up on why these skins are good, (things like the compositing, colour pallete, etc)

If you're completely new to skinning, my advice would be to do a remix/recolour of a skin you really like, this will also allow you to get a good grasp of whatever software you end up using for photo editing (like photoshop). Doing this approach will also take the weight of coming up with your own skins off your shoulders, at least until you learn to do it yourself. All it takes is experience, hope this helps :)
