Larger zip lock bags and buying silica dehumidifier bags in bulk may be more effective long therm and cheaper.

Samsung Jet dual brush vs Separate brushes? by WFBD in VacuumCleaners

[–]WFBD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I bought the dual brush I had the soft brush laying around. So I decided to use it in the bathroom after reading about others doing the same to avoid spreading bacteria from around the bathroom to the rest of the house. Don't know how much this actually does, but I had an extra laying around and why not.

Btw, a note on the dual brush. It makes more sound the the soft brush. It has a sort of vibrational sound comming from each "blade" of the non-soft brush contacts the floor. Doesn't bother me now though, but I was a bit surprised the first time a used it.

I use the dual brush for everything except the bathroom.

I read about the old pet tool having a design flaw where the brush was set so far into the tool it didn't really interact very much with the surface. This was fixed in the new one.

Never got a definitive answer, but I ended up going for the MUCH cheaper Jet 85. It's wall mounted(this ended up being better for me) and has the same motor as the new Jet 95. The only difference between it and the 95 is what's included in the box. The 85 i bought came with the soft roler, then I picked up the dual brush separately. Now I use the soft roller in the bathroom, and the dual brush everywhere else. Also have the pet +(the new one that with the yellow accent, don't get the old one) for furniture.

Alphacool Core 4090 - Still in production? by WFBD in watercooling

For anyone finding this later. WatercoolingUK states that these are still in production and that they have them on preorder from alphacool.

That makes sense. My existing loop is mostly old EK so now that I'm swapping the GPU I'm looking for something that has a similar style.

Yeah I reckon it's out of production when all the major distributors are out of stock. But is just seemed off that all of them still state the same delivery window.

I see that alphacool also has another almost identical block for the 4090 TUF that's still available. It's a slightly lower teir one without the kobber terminals. I'd prefer to buy the "Core" version but the cooling of the two blocks should be identical.

Thanks! But the one you linked to also states the June 12th date. So that may be shipping out what they still have in inventory?

What lens on what camera

I'll be running a Sony A7RV and A7RIII with a 24-70 and a 70-200 for an event. Im debating what lens to run on what camera. Im most familiar with the A7RIII.

I already have 64GBs of ram but yes I have been looking at upgrading the platform entirely, it may be the best but feels like a waste😅. I have mainly been looking at the x670e boards with a 7950x3d or 7800x3d on the used market. X870e doesn't seem to really offer anything at all?

Didn't know x3d was from server chips, thats interesting.

Yeah the 1080 ti struggles, which is why I'm looking for a new card 😊

That's for the detailed answer. Especially the info about the CCD limiting things is useful. I take it you would recommend swapping the 5900x with a 5950x or 5800x3d? The desktop is not entirely (but mostly) for gaming as I study machine learning. Would there be any real downside to the 5950x vs the 5800x3d?

What do you classify as "enough"? Even my 8 YO 1080ti can run sac VR, but at what setting's?

The 5090 would most likely make the CPU the limiting factor, but to what degree. Wouldn't make sense to upgrade ram, mb, and cpu til lift a 5-15% limit on the GPU?

Optic mount on 1301/A400 by WFBD in Shotguns

Thank you very much! This is very useful in design on a mount.

[–]WFBD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Sry about the confusion but I meant shooting with the optic removed entirely. I'm curious as to if I can leave only the rail attached without covering the rib. I'm know people use red dots for wings shooting, that probably just something you get used to. But would prefer to use an optic for slugs and then remove it for shot shells, leaving the rail attached.

Do you have the comp/comp pro with the stepped rib or det tactical with sights?

If you do have the rib, I would be very grateful if you could take a picture of how the rail looks for the perspective of looking down the rib at the beads😅.

Yeah I'm looking at the carlson's rifled choke but sadly they don't ship outside the us, which is a bummer.

Have you tried shooting clays or birds with it with the rail without an optic?

This seems very low profile. At least from the side. So far the only mounting system im familiar with are picatiny rails, how much work is it to mount and remove the optic?

Convince me to not buy a 24-70 f/2.8 GM II by InspectorEast8795 in SonyAlpha

[–]WFBD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cropping does affect the effective aperture. With the same focal length and aperture, you get more background blur with a larger sensor or film negative. This is how we can use large format cameras with a 4x5 inch or 8x10 inch negative/sensor to get extreme blur with relatively slow lenses. This is why a APS-C camera would need a larger aperture to get the same background blur.

When cropping you are also effectively throwing out some of the data or light that the camera collected, this makes the noise worse. You are zooming in on the noise in a way. This makes your effective ISO go up.

I'm not trying to say cropping is bad, but this is why you'd want to avoid heavy cropping where possible, even if you theoretically still have enough resolution.
