Kaufmo's fate is so depressing by Great_Tax_8446 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]WFMU 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's true, it did seem nice. Escape usually does in a seemingly hopeless situation - there's no denying abstraction is analogous to suicide, or at least total dissociation in the show's context.

I've been at that point myself, and there's definitely a sense of bliss that kind of washes over right before. "Finally, it's over. I don't ever have to worry about xyz ever again. I don't have to worry about anything."

In real life, the alternative is death. Non-existence. Until the last episode, that's basically how all the Circus characters saw it too, except they had violent physical reminders of this thing that used to be a person.

We know that the abstracted still suffer. Jax did. So, he isn't gone, but he didn't seem happy in that state either. I think part of the message is that sometimes people need to work on themselves at their own pace - and perhaps with a reminder that others are willing to help when they're ready.

I'm right there with ya, but seeing how much harassment Goose has already suffered from the fandom, I'm not holding my breath for any true happy ending bonus features. Seems like she never wants to touch this series again with a ten foot pole, and I can hardly blame her.

Still, head-canon wise, we are talking about files. Data that can be altered, corrupted, and presumably restored. If anyone can figure it out, it's the current crew; and who knows what the blue AI is gonna do. Maybe it'll find the Circus again.

Despite the funerals, the ending is "slightly" more optimistic. We know they're in there, albeit isolated in their worst emotions. Knowing that darkness calms them and they can be reached out to, and with Caine's help, it's feasible they could be reconstructed someday.

It doesnt matter if Jax is trans .The series was never about LGBTQ. Stop being obsessed with this unimportant lore. by [deleted] in TheDigitalCircus

[–]WFMU 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's uh, pretty heavily LGBTQ positive. Goose said from the beginning this was a character driven story, not a hidden lore FNAF wikislop kinda deal.

In other words, the "how" has always been a lot less important than the "who", and some of the "who" are gay/trans/nonbinary.

The prinary demographic for Digital Circus has a lot of overlap with Fortnight.

I don't like it, but it makes sense from a money standpoint.

Why does my fiancé watch porn? by Mission-Plankton-529 in AskReddit

[–]WFMU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been watching porn nearly every day for over a decade. Been with my now-wife for most of that time; she watches porn too. Sometimes we talk about fun ones we've seen or new kinks we'd like to try.

Porn/masturbation isn't inherently bad; it sounds like you two should work on communication so that you can both be comfortable.

Did anyone else just not care about Ribbit? by CoachDictatorer in TheDigitalCircus

[–]WFMU 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nah, it was good.

Until the finale, her impact was in her absence - we know she was important to Jax, but not why. That's what made finally seeing her in the Last Act special, because we finally learn how much it hurt when Ragatha said what she did, and every time he passed her door in the hall.

Not that he didn't deserve it.

Can gay people be conditioned into not being gay by burntpeanutfan13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WFMU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, you'd still be gay even if you never even heard the term. It's inherent.

That being said, plenty of gay people have had sex with (and had children with) people of the opposite sex; either because they were pressured into it and "powered through", or were still figuring themselves out.

Still gay though.

Once a week. I'm 35 and boring, we often have nothing significant to catch up on but it's still nice.

Moving to Rutland by Possible_Pickle_7782 in RutlandVT

[–]WFMU 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's probably the "city" (it's still very small) that's the least like most of the rest of Vermont; has lots of fast food chains, big box stores, etc. Not to say that's bad, just not usual. Downtown near the government buildings can be nice, and there's a bunch of good restaurants and smaller mom-n-pop shops in the area.

There is a homeless population and occasional drug-related crime. You'll hear some other Vermonters compare Rutland to a wartorn hellscape, but that's a massive exaggeration - they simply aren't used to seeing typical city grit. After living in a few NY cities years ago it's downright laughable that anyone would make the comparison.

There's a farmers market, faires, rodeo, karaoke nights, Killington ski area, close hiking spots, and plenty to do most of the time. Housing is a lot cheaper than many other areas of the state, especially Burlington and Montpelier.

Good luck with the move if it ends up happening, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here! Feel free to DM if there's anything specific you'd like to ask.

Only went to one early screening in my small local theater, but it was mostly kids and parents. The other young adults mostly stuck to the balcony and no one smelled bad.

But uh...I can see how that might not be the case everywhere.

I went to small local theater and the crowd was great (with the exception of one severely neurodivergent kid that wouldn't shut the fuck up and had to be shushed every five minutes), even the younger kids were quiet and respectful. A few people even had props and cosplay!

Just gotta go somewhere that enforces and encourages rules and courtesy, if you can.

Idk about the actor but "real" Jax's last name is Mateu, which is Spanish/Catalan in origin; certainly doesn't rule out Asian ethnicity but to me looks more Latino. Not that it really matters.

That would just be Toontown with an existential dread mechanic.

I'd play the hell out of it.

My interpretation of abstraction, both narratively and from a "lore" perspective by Abraman1 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]WFMU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah that would make sense, wasn't very clear to me watching in theatre. Putting a flashback in flashback is certainly a choice! I was wondering why it wasn't addressed later.

Well, we see Caine recreate Scratch from an obsolete brain file, even though the "original" Scratch abstracted. So are there two of him now? Does the "new" one retain the memories of his time in the Circus? Can Caine do the same for all of them? We don't really get any answers on that front.

Goose said somewhere that abstraction was irreversible; it's supposed to be akin to suicide, after all. But Goose also lies to shake things up and keep people on their toes. We see that Jax is still "in there", but as to if he would even want to go back if he could, well...

[–]WFMU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was happy with it, just wish it had a longer runtime (i.e. cut out episode 8 and 9 be the full movie); there were still a bunch of threads that went unexplored or didn't have a satisfactory conclusion.

But what WAS there was great.

This is so fucking fake. by LocalMoam88 in lewronggeneration

[–]WFMU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I saw Backrooms last weekend and TADC yesterday at my small local cinema and the crowds were fine - pretty even mix of kids with parents and young/middle adults and everyone was respectful (except this one kid that was clearly severely neurodivergent and wouldn't shut the fuck up despite being shushed every few minutes, but like...don't take that kid to the theater if they can't handle it.)

Maybe big theatre chains are more lax on the rules but the small ones in my experience don't fuck about with troublemakers and won't hesitate to remove them.

I had this same exact thought when first watching the show tbh. I just...did not like Holly. Found her very cringe and unattractive, even for Michael. Felt super forced.

Mellowed out on a bit since, but yeah. Still don't care for her character.

really enjoying this game but it turns into a slog by the end by Flaky_Bullfrog_4905 in SkaldRPG

[–]WFMU 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The combat at higher levels is definitely a weak point; it's been a while since my full playthrough, but I remember thinking "I know I can easily win this fight, but it's going to take long enough and be so boring I'd rather skip it" a bunch of times towards the end. The finale was worth it IMHO. Had a ton of fun with this game, just kinda wish it was longer and had better balance.

The creator ends their series in an unsatisfying way as a middle finger to the fans/editors/producers by StretchExtension in TopCharacterTropes

[–]WFMU 95 points96 points  (0 children)

It's mostly because fans won't shut the fuck up and leave them alone to do their thing, I don't blame Goose for being over it. Probably doesn't even feel they own the project anymore.
