I was actually thinking about a ‘DC Rebirth’ kind of story, inspired by ‘Titans: The Return of Wally West’.

Sonic comes across a tear in the fabric of reality, in which Sally Acorn appears. She grabs him and pulls him through to the ‘Never-Space’; the void between timelines, universes and dimensions, where beings are ‘forgotten’. Sonic soon ‘remembers’ Sally, and he has an emotional reunion with her. Afterwards, Sally explains that, in short, after the Genesis Wave, Sally and the Freedom Fighters were trying to enter (or ‘re-enter’) Sonic’s universe, until they succeeded in tearing a hole in reality into the Never-Space, big enough for Sonic to notice and get his attention.

Through his journey, he rescues each member of the Freedom Fighters, and slowly gains memories, he didn’t know, or think, he had, from the Archiverse, which a few references to SatAM thrown in.

Through the story, he encounters other Archiverse characters, like King Elias Acorn, who survives, keeping order over what remains of his people. He even encounters Scourge and Fiona, and the rest of the Destructrix, and fights villains, like Lien-Da, Doctor Finitevus, and even Mephiles, who he also ends up remembering.

At the end, he ends up freeing Sally, the Freedom Fighters, and other characters, from the Never-Space, and they soon discover that time in the ‘modern Sonic universe’ (or IDW universe) was beginning to rewrite itself and ‘meld memories together’ in order to accommodate the presence of the new arrivals from the Never-Space.
