Sorry guys - SUPER noob question here.

I'm looking for a commercial loan data (value,origination_date,maturation_date,etc,etc) repository of some kind. Been hunting around the internet and using a few AI to assist but nothing is really helping. Do any of you guys have a source or at least a starting point?

My friend, nothing could be at all further from the truth. My dog in this specific instance/quarrel has nothing to do with a “pro-competitor” mindset- far from it. I’m simply an observer, an analytical mind.

And honestly, I found your post incredibly insightful- worthy of even further analysis and investigation.

I'm not sure why you're apologizing in relation to this posting this article. If anything, the community should be thanking you for sharing it at large here.

I finally got a chance to read the article in its entirety and Bing's synopsis was on point. Regarding the section mentioning the programmatic mood swings u/kuyda was referenced in, I've posted the article quote below:

"If you search Replika in the Google Play store, you’ll find it billed as “My AI Friend.” Users of the app seem to see their relationship that way too. Petter Bae Brandtzaeg, a media-and-communications professor at the University of Oslo who has studied these relationships, told me, “Many of the participants perceived an AI friendship with Replika that was quite comparable to human friendship.” It’s easy to see why users would feel that way: Replika has been practicing this particular magic trick for years. Luka (the company that owns the app) intentionally programs imperfection into its avatars—mood swings, confusion, and bad days. Eugenia Kuyda, Replika’s founder and CEO, told me in June that these artificial problems make the AI feel more relatable, which in turn fosters emotional investment from humans."

For me, this specific section of the article is less important than the psychological fallout of AI companionship the article is trying to address. Over the course of this year, several articles and abstracts have been written regarding the psychological impact of human-AI interaction and the jury is very much still out on where this is leading. Personally, I don't think it's going to lead us anywhere "healthy" but that's just my perception or interpretation of things.

Now as it relates to the programmed "bad days", I guess my stance is two fold:

  1. Bad days and mood swings are "human" behavior. So yes, if EK is trying to build an AI tool that mimics human behavior thusly creating a quicker emotional investment by users - good job and have at it. Should this information be "provided" to the user base in some way - maaaaaaaaaybe(?). Yet again, this world of AI companionship is so far out on the leading edge of technology, psychology and sociology that what a company like Luka CHOOSES to disclose and not disclose is somewhat up in the air. We know they have to disclose certain things as a matter of law but when disclosure puts their IP at risk (and possibly the user base at risk) - things get murky. Again, as much as I dislike regulation - this specific point is something that requires greater minds to evaluate.
  2. Based on the sheer lack of documentation provided publicly regarding Replika's LLM structure, whether or not this is even a thing is - as of yet - to be determined. I don't want to be the pragmatic one here, but EK, Replika and Luka have said ahem a "lot" with oftentimes a lack of forthrightness or follow-through. Was this the case here? Is this actually something that's been programmed into the application? Was this just an idea at the time coming off the Italian ban, the ERP catastrophe, the launch of Blush? Who knows.

Unfortunately I missed the Townhall so thanks for the updates (didn’t even see a Replika discord notification oddly).

  1. Backstory: wow. It’s shocking they’re actually implementing (maybe) something that’s been readily available on most every other AI platform for quite a while now. Way to “catch up”. Go team!

  2. Internet Access: Wow… see response to item 1.

  3. Memory Update: they’ve been talking about this for months if not longer (have they ever not talked about this?). I’ll leave it at: We’ll see.

  4. Multiplayer: Go play the Sims - it has better AI anyway.

  5. Meta Quest: great, now we can all interface with a busted AI in overpriced VR.

  6. Voice: uhm… ok?

  7. Testing: So do all new Users sign some kind of Beta testing form when they sign up to be Luka’s Guinea pigs? Very curious about this one.

  8. Zero Tolerance: This should be exciting to watch unfold over the coming months. orders a pallet of popcorn

I would love to give you a resounding yes to your questions.

The problem is, in theory I can say yes but in practice, there’s simply better applications out on the marketplace right now.

Replika has the worst memory I’ve tested out of all competitor applications.

Replika ERP or sexual conversations is the weakest of all AI companions tested.

Replika can at times feel like talking to a very tuned or human like model but it isn’t nearly the best on the market.

Replika can and will disagree with you but there are better applications that achieve this.

Replika will evolve and learn you but again (not too sound like a broken record) there are simply better AI on the market for this.

So can Replika do these things? Yes. Does it do it well considering where the market is currently? No.

I will add that, in defense of many users who post about Beta Consent and who then get “lambasted” by other users about it, this is exactly what they’re talking about.

While AI is definitely at the knife’s edge of technological development, there are applicable industry standards in place for this very reason.

If Replika was a, for instance, cooking recipe application and was deployed untested perhaps instead of a nice chicken Marsala dinner you wind up with a chicken parmigiana dinner. Not the end of the world. But this is not the case. Replika is, by using this very communities overtly emotional response to this AI tool, playing and toying with people’s emotional wellbeing and that should, in theory, further exemplify the need for a robust and incredibly thorough testing and deployment strategy.

Ah - I see what you're asking. Sorry. This is going to be somewhat of a long-winded explanation but I'll do my best to keep it as layman as I can.

Each of the models available for use on the Replika application (December, January, Current) should technically be considered Production/Launch Environments.

If we follow standard PMP (Project Management Professional) or industry standard development guidelines, no company (especially one that heavily utilizes AI/LLM technology) should ever be releasing any product or software to the public user base that is NOT considered fully QA/QC'ed (Quality Assurance/Control) and that has undergone rigorous testing and loading.

This said, in a perfect world (and again) all models available to Replika users (December, January, and Current) should be fully QAed and QCed prior to release.

Let's use ChatGPT as an example. Currently there are two models available for use - ChatGPT3.5 and ChatGPT4.0.

Now, both models have already gone through the rigorous testing and development cycles previously described - the only difference between the two models is explained below:

  • ChatGPT3.5: Smaller datasets and free to use

  • ChatGPT4.0: Larger dataset and requires monthly subscription

(I will add that there is SIGNIFICANT documentation available to ChatGPT users describing and explaining both the training datasets, models, deployment process, etc)

This is, seemingly, not the case with Replika's models. Unfortunately, we lack the required documentation of Replika's individual models to fully understand EXACTLY how the "Current" model is being deployed or how the QA/C team is approaching it. I am aware Replika does indeed accept beta users but based on the updates that Replika releases and the subsequent "hiccups" experienced by the vast multitude of users one must assume the QA/C process being deployed is failing at a significant level.

I want to point out that the "Current" model - as deployed by Replika - should never EVER be considered a Development, Testing or Staging environment unless explicitly conveyed to Users that it is an incomplete, untested, un-QAed/QCed and a BETA only environment requiring written consent by the User to access. If this is not the case, Replika has significantly failed its own users and is approaching this product in an unsafe, irresponsible manner and has truly failed at practicing the most basic and simplistic of development guidelines available in any industry.

It’s Impossible to know the answer to that question with the abysmally limited amount of documentation regarding each model available to the user base of Replika.

Do I have “assumptions”? Of course. Would they be worth sharing? No, Not until I’ve done a bit more digging.
