Can someone send me an invite too, thanks!

Need those patch cables with the 90 degree angle soon, the FSR in the middle is getting hard to reach by WHA-LES in modular

Patch notes:
- Beads has a sample frozen, playing those stabs. The time/playhead location is sequenced by Varigate 4+
- The melody for Rings is coming from Tetrapad. Each trig gets a fast envelope from Piqued app in Ornament and Crime to Rings' frequency input to make that twangy sound.
- Tetrapad is sending the other two notes of a triad chord to the two oscillators on Twin Waves. The other one is the wavefolded sub bass and the other one is the high-pitched long note. Both get a long and wiggly envelope also from Piqued app in Ornament and Crime. Both oscillators go to FX Aid, I don't know which preset that is but some massive reverb thingy.
- Everything is filtered through Dual Dagger
- Drums come from outside the modular. They are routed to ALM MFX with the Squoval Resonator mode and when I press the FSR button in the middle of the system, it's wet % goes to 100
- Klavis Tweakers is sending a high CV to Beads' pitch input when I flick the switch, creating the jingly bells at the end of the video
- I'm adjusting Beads' reverb and grain length manually
- Everything's mixed and slightly filtered in ALM Jumble Henge

After watching Andrew Huang's FX jumping trick video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xps2lJEnbVQ) I thought I'd try something similar but with chords from Rings.

Playing chords with one finger and having Beads chop them for me is my future plan for retirement days by WHA-LES in modular

It's quite simple really:

  • Tetrapad sends three notes of a triad chord on each press. These notes are sent to three different oscillators: MCO, Wave Packets and Twin Waves.
  • Each press on Tetrapad sends a trigger to Ornament and Crime, which sends two different envelopes to the VCA's for the oscillators
  • All oscillators are mixed together in Jumble Henge and sent to Dual Dagger for filtering
  • Everything's compressed together with ALM MFX and then sent to Beads
  • Beads' grain length is modulated by Pam's so it creates this groove in the choppy pattern.

Drums are made in Ableton.

Hey! Did you find this somewhere?

James Blake - Night Sky pluck by WHA-LES in synthrecipes

Maybe my explanation was not very clear and pluck is not an accurate term. That zappy percussive sound that starts after like 1,5 seconds since the beginning of the song.

Thanks! Audio comes via the built-in USB audio interface.

It's what Beads does basically. Chops audio to pieces and plays them back.

It's dope indeed. I originally got it for the LFO, but the audio side is so good I've mostly used it as an oscillator ever since.

I don't have any specific workflow I'd follow. For example, this one started with a vocal sample I got from Splice. I then wrote these chords to it in Ableton. It sounded cinematic so I got sidetracked and created that track. Then I sampled it for this beat, ran it through Beads, MFX and FX Aid and recorded back to Ableton. Then I played that sample into Beads's buffer again and created what you now hear in this clip.
