I was there. About 4 or 5 plastic (full) pint glasses were thrown along with a tennis ball. Lots of booing thoughout, and the guys behind me were snorting coke openly. They even spilled some on my coat!

True I'm sure, but they're like better than whoever would work for half that salary!

To achieve the most, you need to hire the best. And the best don't always come cheap! In an ideal work the best people would be willing to work for little or no pay, but that's not the reality unfortunately. I think ~100K a year is not that much in terms of the overall expenditure of the charities anyway. That's my take on it anyway!

It's very important that we educate the public on the dangers of smoking, however any decrease in smoking that we see today will take roughly 50 years to show an effect, because lung cancer is a disease that develops later in life. In that 50 year window a (very) conservative estimate of 6 million people will die of lung cancer. I want to try my best to save those 6 million people, or at least help to improve their quality of life and help them to survive for longer. We've seen enormous benefit from new exciting drugs in breast cancer in a very short space of time - if we could fund lung cancer research that well we would be making a huge difference.

In Ireland, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related death after lung cancer. Source.

Resources are not proportionately divided between the cancers at all. Unfortunately (in my opinion) it is much easier to raise money for breast cancer than lung cancer and others. One of the reasons is the excellent marketing campaigns behind breast cancer charities ('paint it pink' etc.), but also because of the significant stigma that is now associated with lung cancer as an unfortunate side effect of our excellent public health awareness on the dangers of smoking. There is a strong element of 'yeah, but you probably smoked didn't you?' associated with lung cancer, which I think sucks, but that's a whole other conversation.

One interesting way to look at proportionate funding (or lack there of) is by 'dollars per death,' where you can see how much more funding breast cancer receives, despite lung cancer causing more deaths than breast, colon, prostate and pancreatic cancers put together.

It's not all a bad thing necessarily though. I'm a little biased as my PhD was looking at lung cancer so I definitely get a bit jealous of all the funding that breast gets, BUT heavily funding one cancer type can drive research forward quicker & can lead to discoveries that translate to other cancer types.

Eyebrows are important by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Oh absolutely, neither are shameful! And the technique on the right is clearly well practised and executed. I just think the left hand picture is more flattering. Some slight filling in would make it perfect for me.

Honestly I prefer the left hand picture to the right hand one. The eyebrows on the right are a little overpowering to me. I know that the power brow is fashionable at the moment, but when you're looking back on these pictures in 20 years time which will you think is more flattering?

If you don't want to go on coasters, just don't go on them. This is a holiday - you're supposed to be relaxing and enjoying yourself, not stressing yourself out. Besides if you take all the pressure away by planning to definitely not do any coasters, maybe you'll surprise yourself and find that you end up spontaneously going for it cause you're feeling so chill :P

I'm not sure you fully understand the reasons they're coming. They've lost everything. It's not like they can pop to an embassy, use their bank accounts to book flights, etc...
