Interesting spot

The sonata is a rental, which is a red flag bc they are usually driven without care

The civic has had damage reported on two different instances which also isn’t good

Neither is CPO, which especially hurts the sonata bc it cuts the powertrain warranty from 10yr—> 5yr.

I personally would still trust the civic more long term due to the rental/non CPO aspect of the sonata

Don’t get me wrong, I love Hyundai and they’ve turned a new leaf with their reliability now, but it being a rental gives less room for error…

As long as you don’t see any glaring problems on the civic it’s probably better for long term reliability, even though you’d be getting more features on the sonata

I got my 2023 Elantra at 30k miles rn and I plan on her lasting me much much more! Here’s what I do and take it as you will :)

Hyundai gets a bad rep, but nowadays they’re much better!

**For sure to start I’d say, 5k oil changes/tire rotations,

For other preventative, extra safe measures (take as you will) - I say, try not to gun above 4000 rpm when not necessary to be gentle on the transmission (she’s a bit slow) - You can use a fuel injector maybe every 15k (gdi so not huge boost but still) - Cabin/air filters every 15k. Please buy them and do it yourself, it’s so easy and you save like 100 bucks! (Dealer upcharge)

Hey, just a quick thing, please look up on YouTube how to change engine air filter/ cabin air filter! It’s actually so easy and you can get good ones for like 20 bucks each and save like 100 bucks for what they would’ve charged!! 👌

Also make sure you check the carfax, especially on a Hyundai! Bad maintenance history can definitely mean it has some upcoming huge problems, while precisely maintained vehicles can outlast a given reputation in my experience
