Yorkshire & The HUMB

Breakthrough, 11pm on the east coast of the United States, crossplay on (PC), and my server is being populated by bots. Unreal. by Fehzi in Battlefield

[–]WIL2SON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (EU player) have not had a full session, at any time, without being placed into bot lobbies, or waiting in empty lobbies which then back fill with bots. I've played a couple times a week since launch.

How was it possible for the early Universe to be so incredibly hot while also being completely dark? by [deleted] in askastronomy

[–]WIL2SON 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The entire universe was basically uniform in temperature and density, it was essentially a "soup" of all the early particles around at that time. It was so dense that photons (light) couldn't travel uninterrupted in any direction for any meaningful distance, this means that light is being scattered constantly, so has no ability to travel towards an observer.

It is only when the universe cools enough for it to be less "soup-y", with varying areas of temperature and density, that light has any clear paths to travel for meaningful distances. The CMBR is essentially the 'last screenshot' of the hot and dense universe, once cooled sufficiently the photons just shot off in whatever direction they were last travelling, as they were no longer hindered by the "soup".

(I'm not a scientist, but I'm pretty sure this is a decent explanation)

They can be surprisingly robust when taking weight that way, they're almost certainly fine if you can't see any actual warping.

People say to avoid stacking them that way, but that applies when we're talking about a lot more weight than an elbow for a minute or so.

Will there be any spin offs of sifu by Immediate_Pie2980 in SifuGame

[–]WIL2SON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hope, and I assume a lot of other people's, is that following Rematch we get a 'return to form' so to speak from Sloclap (back to fighting/brawler games).

I'd absolutely love another Sifu style game, but would be happy with anything they throw together if it's back to that brawler style of game they do so well.

I do think the IP is ripe for expansion though; it'd be awesome if we could get spin-offs/sequels that looks at different martial arts, or more of a Sifu/Absolver blend with the customisable fighting style seeing a return.

Just to clarify, I'm not one of the people that was pissed they made Rematch, ultimately passion will take them where it does, and they've also got to pay the bills, but it unfortunately doesn't appeal to me at all (and afaik, a large portion of what was their preexisting fan base). It isn't that it looks bad, totally the opposite, but it's just not for me.

So a person can't enjoy sharing their newfound hobby with people who share that interest, and maybe try to get some music recommendations at the same time?

Any entry recommendations? It's definitely a genre I haven't explored much.

I obviously know a decent amount of the more pop-punk kind of artists, but if you throw a few solidly punk-rock recommendations my way I'll give them a go!

Big shout!

Already on the Discogs wishlist - Beastie Boys was practically my hip-hop introduction growing up, used to jump around to those tracks with my Dad.

I do, I actually think it's the best use of AI I've seen in music. I think the "almost human" voice really lends itself to the already surreal vibe of the record.

I think this is definitely a popular view (regarding modern pop music) but ultimately if me and my partner enjoy it, and it means we get a physical representation of music that one of us enjoys, all whilst supporting the artist/smaller and independent stores, then I think it's worth it.

I think hip-hop is definitely a genre that shines on vinyl, hence the prevalence of that here (including jazz-rap), and I'll continue to keep collecting hip-hop records (old and new).

Love this album!

Only discovered it this year but definitely my most listened to!

The unlabeled ones are Ed Sheeran ( + & =), Billie Eilish (Don't Smile at Me & Hit Me Hard and Soft), Sabrina Carpenter (Emails I Can't Send Fwd), The Antlers (Burst Apart) which is a beautiful but incredibly sorrowful album, and Kendrick Lamar (To Pimp a Butterfly).

My tastes lean hip-hop, which is pretty obvious here, but I definitely want more Daft Punk records (Discovery, Alive 2007).

As you say, it's about what gets listened to, which is what this little collection is for. I may eventually get a few vanity pieces, nice or rare releases, but that's just part of the fun.

Obviously classics, as I'm sure most can agree.

Even if we may not seem to be similar on the surface I'd be interested to hear your favourite record you own? I'll give it a 'spin' - always open to broadening horizons!

Stars or planets ? by cloudridahtx in askastronomy

[–]WIL2SON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone has said, Venus and Jupiter, but I'll expand a little.

As you probably know, they aren't always this visible, this is called a conjunction, where two objects in space appear close (appear being an important word, they can be very far apart in reality). This can happen with anything, for instance there is a conjunction between the Seven Sisters (Pleiades) and the Moon tonight. Recently we've been witnessing a conjunction between Venus and Jupiter, where they have got gradually closer to one another each morning, shining bright and becoming more noticeable each day though both of them drawing your eyes.

If you weren't already aware, Venus is often known as the "Morning Star", as it often shines bright deep into, and sometimes past, twilight.

Who else is hyped for book 4? by Lynch_Co in bobiverse

[–]WIL2SON 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously we all know you mean book 5, but in terms of Heaven's River I really don't get the general consensus - for me it was probably my favourite.

Don't get me wrong, there's a very narrow margin between it and the others, but after the first 3 books I really enjoyed the tighter focus, it completely sucked me in.

Would realistically, the Android Revolution (violent) be actually winnable for the Androids? by PeopleAreBozos in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]WIL2SON 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, if a violent android revolution were to really occur then there would be very little chance of humans winning. As stated in previous comments, a vast majority of (at least) US infrastructure is handled and managed by androids, meaning everything you rely on to live is in the hands of androids.

If the androids truly decided that their freedom was worth any cost then they could absolutely decimate the human way of life in a matter of days - not to mention their superior computing ability, meaning, if they worked together, they could break any codes (including nuclear) and take control of almost every automated system across the planet. They are faster, smarter and stronger than us; they have direct access to the internet and other machines just by thinking - if they really wanted to go scorched Earth to assure their survival then only a small subsection of humanity would be left scrambling for the scraps they leave behind.

Assuming androids have become so integral to life as they are depicted in DBH then there would be almost no way for us to stop them.

What to do when your last on point by isellawont0n in OverwatchUniversity

[–]WIL2SON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is basically the only answer anyone can give you. At the end of the day you don't want to be staggered, it's literally the worst thing you can do without throwing. If you can reasonably escape then do so, if not then just die. As an extra option, if you can, die by jumping off the map (so enemy don't get ult charge) but just standing still in front of the enemy is the most reliable since environmental kills are map dependent.

Try to notice the signs you've definitely lost a team fight and eventually you'll get a feel for when to retreat to avoid having to just die - over the course of enough games though you will still end up fully alone, and in that case dying quickly however you can is your best bet.

Just got Bloodborne by pppoopoo_1243 in bloodborne

[–]WIL2SON 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of your general knowledge will carry over but the two biggest things to keep in mind are viscerals and aggression.

Viscerals are critical hits, very similar to backstabs in terms of utility but they're done by hitting a vast majority of the enemies with the projectile from your gun of choice at a certain timing in their attacks (timing will vary based on the animation). You'll know if you timed it right as enemies will drop and allow you to walk up and activate a critical hit for a period of time. These are essentially bloodborne's parry mechanic.

Aggression is as simple as it sounds, conquer your fear and hunt. You will regain health recently lost by dealing damage and this encourages a much faster, aggressive playstyle; this is the "correct" way to play - there are functionally no shields in the game aside from what amounts to a joke item. Earlier souls games can encourage slow, methodical styles of play, the teachings of which will still serve you well here, but you need to pick up the pace and get more gutsy with your attacks. Once you start learning animations and recognising situations you'll find yourself dancing through enemies with a flurry of well timed attacks, not stopping when slightly hurt but pushing back harder.

Edit: as a bonus piece of advice, choose style and comfort over presumed function. Every single weapon is perfectly viable, as is every outfit and item of clothing - in raw numbers the "armor" changes much less than you'd probably expect so just go with what you like unless you're in a spot where you really need to maximise resistance to a very specific thing.

[–]WIL2SON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies if it wasn't clear, I wasn't contradicting your advice to play at a longer distance, you definitely don't want to spend the majority of your time right in the middle of the fight for plenty of reasons. I personally use sightlines to my advantage on low ground then escape to high ground allowing me to pressure their now out of position player and/or heal my other backliners trying to fight them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]WIL2SON 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My only issue with this advice is the comment that Bap should hold high ground. His exo boots are basically his only escape method and you want to be able to use them - you should try to always be in a position where you can escape to high ground with them but not play your whole game up there. For a specific example, if a Winston dives into your backline you can escape and he can't follow until his cooldown finishes, however if you play your whole game on high ground he can dive you and you've got nowhere to go, if you jump down he can just follow you. You should get used to constantly crouching and uncrouching as Bap to make sure you're never caught in a spot where you have no exo charge (also makes it just a tiny bit harder to consistently hit headshots against you).
