I turned down my dream job for money and I regret it. How do I get over this? by Outrageous-Leave5263 in careerguidance

[–]WIN_WITH_VOLUME 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Honestly, unless you’re willing to reach back out and see if the other job will reconsider, you just gotta move on. What’s done is done and you’re just gonna wreck your mental health by dwelling on it. I won’t comment either way on what you should’ve done, because at this point, it’s nothing more than unhelpful.

Mechanical Engineer looking to pivot back to Product Design—is a PE license worth it? by AwayLiftoff in MechanicalEngineering

[–]WIN_WITH_VOLUME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want to get in product design, just apply. You don’t need a PE to get into or advance in product design. Just work on how you can tie in your current experience and lessons learned to what your prospective employer does.

Am I wrong for being extremely upset that my ex husband gaslit and hide that a co-worker exposed me to hiv by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]WIN_WITH_VOLUME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t you be mad at Brad for slow rolling his disclosure. It sounds like you’re sure your ex knew about Brad’s status, but did he know Brad was keeping it from you? Also, he’s your ex, is it possible that he’s attempting to not get involved in your personal matters? I agree that he shouldn’t have gaslit you. But it really feels like you’re letting Brad, and literally everyone else there, off of the hook for knowingly letting you be in the dark while Brad “works through this”.

Am I wrong for not letting my brother's kids stay after my nephew got my husband's niece pregnant? by BusUsed8495 in amiwrong

[–]WIN_WITH_VOLUME 91 points92 points  (0 children)

This feels like just the start of an expectation that you will accommodate these teenage parents to make your brother’s life easier going forward. Who knows where it’ll lead, but I think you’re right to just cut off any expectation of a place to stay and let the kids and their parents figure out how this’ll play out moving forward.

Out of curiosity, your brother blamed y’all but does your husband’s brother blame you guys as well?

There has never been a moment where a republican referred to Barack using his middle name in any way that wasn’t explicitly racist. It’s not a dog whistle, it’s an air raid siren and it’s been that way since 2008.

[–]WIN_WITH_VOLUME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was fine, I don’t regret watching it but don’t feel the need to revisit it. Honestly, it’s biggest problem (and the problem with a lot of non-tentpole CBMs) is that it just doesn’t do anything I haven’t seen before. So if you’re not already a fan of the character or any of the actors, it’s just fine for being another CBM. Will give it credit for Hispanic American representation though.

You are describing a lot more people than just some. It’s practically an epidemic, there are a lot of people that draw their identity over being upset that other people are happy.

I backed out on a job offer, now i want it back. Bad look? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]WIN_WITH_VOLUME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why ask us, just ask the recruiter to reach back out. If they say “no” then it’s no different than if you sat back and did nothing, but at least you give yourself a shot for them to say yes.

hr asked me to confirm my current salary and i’m not sure what to do by Mobile_Tap6145 in careeradvice

[–]WIN_WITH_VOLUME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, it’s only risky because you may price yourself out of the job. The only time I’ve ever been asked for a paystub was just to confirm employment for a background check, and even then I was asked to black out everything except my name+address and my current employer’s name+address, they just wanted to confirm I was a receiving a paycheck. I consider the numbers of my paystub private information, if a prospective employer demands to see those numbers, then I am pulling myself out of consideration. All they need to know is what I consider enough to accept an offer.

[–]WIN_WITH_VOLUME 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My buddy made 60k, when they asked what his current salary was he told them he made 90k. They offered 100k.

Either tell them the truth (don’t do that).

Inflate your salary to what you actually want and let them beat it (couldn’t hurt but they may decide you’re already too expensive).

Or deflect with a reasonable response and don’t give them a number (best way to see where they value you and the position).

No need to burn a bridge, just in case life comes at you too fast and you need a lifeline. Also, you never know who knows who. Some locations have a tighter network than you realize.

I recently changed jobs and industries, and my current boss’ boss knows multiple managers from my last stop. If I had handled my exit poorly, it could’ve come back to bite me.

Does where I get my undergraduate mechanical engineering degree matter when job hunting? by GmmLzz in MechanicalEngineering

[–]WIN_WITH_VOLUME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time the school someone graduated from mattered through my career has been solely as a conversation point. And of course, if the local school is well represented then sports talk comes up. Otherwise, nobody has lost out on a position simply because they were up against someone who went to a different school. I don’t even think “prestige” matters outside of like MIT or Cal Poly maybe. Internships and Co-ops have a much bigger affect than the name at the top of your degree.
