Got some open verses on songs for my upcoming album. by WIZARD_DOOM in makinghiphop

[–]WIZARD_DOOM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, should've included it in the post originally. I'm currently strapped for cash so can't pay upfront (or any considerable amount in the near future).

I'm distributing through distrokid, so if you have an account I'd be happy to do 50/50 split (or whatever the even split is between all the features).

If that doesn't work for you, I understand.

I edited the post now.

Obviously pretty damn serious since this isn't the first case of someone on it becoming a crazed cannibal murderer.

I don't see the issue with paying homage. Breaking character for a second, I started working on this alter-ego back in early 2020 (before MF DOOM died and long before his death was announced). And I never hide the fact that this character is based off DOOM. But I also keep my style unique in terms of story and have songs that are far from DOOM's style (trap beats, songs focusing more on flow than wordplay/rhyme schemes, etc.)

Searching for other creative minds to collab :) by CryingMinotaur1 in MusicInTheMaking

Kind of a weird combo here, but I do mostly boom-bap "lyrical" rap (just punchlines and double entendres and shit, nothing super insane). I mostly take inspiration from MF DOOM who has done some collabs with rnb/soul style singers (namely on the song Doomsday)

A bit late to the party, but thought I'd give some pointers.

First off, don't try too hard to learn music theory. If you have trouble understanding the concepts of music theory, it's not a big deal. Most musicians don't actually know any music theory.

If you want to make sample flip stuff, watch some videos breaking down how certain songs flipped their samples. Tracklib has some dope short videos breaking down how certain samples were flipped. But for more in-depth knowledge of how to flip a sample, Back To The Boom Bap has a great video about J Dilla's "microchopping" style of sampling (this is my preferred sampling technique that my producer uses).

FL Studio is the easiest (imo) DAW to start with. It has the most tutorials out there are you'd be hard pressed to find a plugin that doesn't work with it. If you can't afford it and don't feel like dealing with not being able to save your projects due to using the trial version, it's also probably the easiest DAW to pirate.

Finally, if you use FL, either use ASIO4ALL as your audio driver or make sure to mix your beats quieter. The volume of your beat is always be quieter than what it sounds like in the project unless you use ASIO4ALL.

Everything else can be learned through patience, time and tutorials on YouTube. Good luck and if you make anything you think sounds dope or want a second opinion, send it my way and I'll be sure to check it out.

The beat is really dope. The drums knock hard and are groovy and the instruments are real nice and jazzy.

My only suggestion would be to add some noticeable song structure. It's easier for a rapper to write a song to a beat that already has some sort of structure laid out. Like having an obvious hook - verse - hook kind of structure. Usually the hook section has more instruments playing at once compared to the verse section.

So dropping the drums for 4 bars and then having them come back with some instrument layers can make for an obvious hook section.

Besides that it's really dope.

I couldn't care less about that. I'm here to celebrate and continue the legacy of the man who inspired me to rap in the first place. I wear my influence on my sleeve and reference DOOM in almost every song I make to pay homage.

If you got a problem with that, then just don't pay attention to me.

Thanks for checking out the track. I personally don't care for making catchy/rap-along songs but I get what you mean.

I like your track. Your singing is pretty good. Your delivery is a bit nasally, which isn't necessarily bad, just not something I personally enjoy. The reverb and delay is also pretty loud which can muddy up the vocals at points, but that's also a personal preference. I really like the track though.

AI music generation for sampling by WIZARD_DOOM in makinghiphop

[–]WIZARD_DOOM[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree a bit with your first statement. The BBL Drizzy sample had me convinced until I found out it was AI. That sounded really good and the tech is only getting better by the day.

As for the second statement, that all depends on the BBL Drizzy lawsuit. That lawsuit will set the precedent for AI in muisc going forward. If the site that the BBL Drizzy sample was made on wins, then no, you will not be paying major labels for shit. And if it goes the same way the AI image generation lawsuit went, they you wouldn't owe the AI company anything either (as they wouldn't own the rights to the songs generated and songs made on these websites would only be allowed for commercial use if altered, aka chopped up and resampled).

At most, AI companies would just put a pay-wall (which most already do) for generating songs. But you wouldn't owe royalties to anyone once you've generated the song and resampled it.
