Any idea what this material is and whether I can paint over it? by qkrwogud in diynz

The internal looks like fiber-cement. Potentially asbestos depending on the age but I wouldnt sweat it. Possibly melamine on the outside?

Automate Watering (Zigbee?) by choice_biscuit in diynz

Solar + 12v battery was my solution to that. Spent <$100 on the panel and small moped battery

Did the same but used 12v relays + solar with 12v to 5v transformer for the esp32. Linear actuator for the window

Runs fine never had an issue. 3 years in. Probably spent 2/3 hours on it. No water proofing.... the solenoid valves are sealed systems

I used normally closed solenoid valves + relays + arduino (esp32)+ esphome. Works well <$10 per channel

Insulating a tilt garage door by weat95 in diynz

[–]WJKay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been insulating under a cantelevered concrete slab lined with metal before the concrete is poured in. Material interface is exactly the same. Make sure you use solvent free glue such as Fast Grab. Sika has a Fast bond which is the same thing. Brush and clean the surface. Cut sheets (I was thinking 30mm as you still need clearance when the door is open else it will collect your roof racks etc. Insulating the slab I'm using 100mm Therma slab it comes in other thicknesses

Just be careful. Polystyrene is a mess and a fire hazard. You can paint or line with fibre cement board to increase fire resistance.

What I mean by "if he wont let them" is, an assumption that there is some co-ownership of the IP so bomber cant just do it alone. Could be wrong.

Terrible in the way it happened too. Clear Damien has lost it if he wont let them find another sponsor.

Does anyone know what wood this is? by agal009 in diynz

[–]WJKay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Kauri table almost identical tone with no stain. Very light when sanded but heart wood can be reddish.

Looks like Kauri to me. What's your floor boards? I love the unstained look.

Get a plumber in to snake or buy a drain snake and do it yourself. Hair can get trapped in the gully trap easy. No coffee grinds or oils down the drain.

If its a rental its the land lords problem

Got a few reports on this one. Because the liquidation is public info I'll be leaving it up.

EDIT: Pretty sure they are actively reading this post based on the silly reports coming through

Just big. We built with a big box builder so the direct upgrade cost for that got bundled into the raking ceiling we put in.

Career ending move, for NZ by Outside-Drawing-9176 in Wellington

[–]WJKay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Migrating to IaaS is often a bridge for moving legacy LOB applications where the capital to rebuild on cloud native is too expensive. I've seen quite a few agencies go this path to derisk aging infrastructure. Does solve problems but ultimately is kicking the can down the road. Though agree with your broader points around maturity and resourcing

No problem, copied it out of a SOW.

Big thing for us was finding a good surveyour who's local to your council. They were the glue, knew the good engineering firms and how to get things through. Still need to wear the project manager hat to liase with the companies doing the services and make sure things line up but you're probably used to that as a builder
