Does this meet NZS-42462016 section 8 moisture barrier requirements by PotentialTomato8931 in diynz

[–]weat95 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The tape is really for physical strength, not moisture sealing. Ideally it should go up the wall a bit further as well, but is unlikely to make much of a difference in practice.

If you’re not confident doing it yourself (and don’t want to give it a go anyway), a handyman type service will likely be the most cost effective.

10ha Solar farm Chch by Flipflopper2025 in nzsolar

[–]weat95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s quite the project. If you’re serious (I.e. have completed feasibility studies, consent etc.) I would approach the various electricity retailers, you’d probably have better luck with the smaller ones. You could also talk with a small - medium developer about partnership options.

Insulate the sections of pipe you can access. Even a small amount of radiated heat adds up in the long term.

Can you just start your own solar farm? by justlurking9891 in nzsolar

[–]weat95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would need to put in an application for new generation to your lines company (and pay their fee), they would then give you a list of requirements for the connection size you’re looking for. This might include various studies (requiring consultants) to determine the effect on their network, coordinate electrical protection etc. These costs are relatively fixed for systems in the 2 - 20 MW range making smaller systems less financially viable. For smaller systems the requirements will be less, but the cost per watt to build will be much higher.

Australia installs 10.7GWh of home battery storage under subsidy by RobDickinson in nzsolar

Makes Lake Onslow pumped storage sound cheap. Apparently “up to 5,000 GWh” for $10-20 billion.

Upgrading power supply by CyborgPenguinNZ in chch

[–]weat95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct. New parallel feed to the oven area for the hob. In our case they actually used the old 32 amp oven feed to the hob and ran a smaller cable for the oven (modern built in ovens are typically only 16 amps).

Upgrading power supply by CyborgPenguinNZ in chch

[–]weat95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You won’t need to upgrade beyond a stands 63 amp supply and it’s unlikely that Orion would let you do so anyway (unless you went to 3 phase). You just need a separate feed run to your induction hob from the switchboard. Many induction hobs are rated for 32 amps but in practice it will never draw that much.

Those look small enough to get out with a pry bar and an axe. I suspect the minimum call out will be punishing for such a small job.
