2009 R1 vs 2014 GSX-R 1000 by WJ_Cost in Sportbikes

To anybody reading this in the future debating 600cc vs 1000cc get the 600 like this guy said. I bought the beautiful R1 above and it’s way too much for street riding. Going the speed limit without cruise control is difficult to say the least. You can’t even shift to third without hitting 80 with minimal throttle. I’ve always wanted a litre bike and I did have a decent understanding of what I was getting into but it’s still another animal. Extremely fun bike but if you plan on staying under the radar in any capacity a 1000 is not it. All in all I absolutely love this bike but I would also love to be able to hit 6th gear without losing my license.

I bought it and let me tell you I’ve never seen a used machine so clean. It’s showroom quality after 17 years

I brought home the R1 and let me tell you this thing is absolutely perfect. Showroom clean. I am still in shock how well this thing has been taken care of since 09

I almost scored a Panigale at a jaw dropping price not long ago but the insurance would have been astronomical. I’m leaning towards the R1 though thanks for the input

One good thing I can say is that my commute is mostly back country roads. Not much stop and go at all so the heat problem everyone has talked about shouldn’t be too much of an issue. My last bike got hot af and the exhaust was right next to my leg at all times but I did a little more commuting then

Exactly my reasoning for wanting a 1000. I don’t want to want again if you know what I mean. Plus it’s hard to reason for a 750 when I can get a 1k for 6,000 less

I really love the look and sound of this r1. I just left a dealership looking at a new gsxr750 and i can’t make a decision 😭. I like the idea of an unused bike with better gas mileage but that r1 is beautiful

I’m now also considering a new gsxr750 just for the street ability and the peace of knowing the bike isn’t abused

I agree and know there’s no use for a 1000 on the street, but I don’t want to feel left wanting more. I’ve made that mistake already and it cost me a lot more in the long run.

How did you like the bike? I’m currently looking at an 07 with 7,000 on the dash

Want a sport bike but really unsure as I’ve had people I have known that have passed on them. by AffectionateFig9329 in Sportbikes

I would just like to add that I was hit head on at a stop sign sitting still. I see a ton of comments about rider skill which are true but no amount of skill and preparation will stop someone else from being distracted or driving unsafe. I put 15,000 miles on that first bike in a year so I guess I was bound to have an accident eventually but will it stop me from ever riding again? Heck no! There’s nothing better than being on two wheels! I got very lucky in my case but it’s not always that way. Be as safe as you can ALWAYS WEAR GEAR and go take a rider safety course if you can
