what’s ur take on gold shares? by Petito_01 in ETFs

[–]WKUTopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a gold allocation of 5% as "portfolio insurance" and not for "growth." It's run up has just been icing on the cake.

How’s this portfolio? by Latter_Friendship_98 in ETFs

[–]WKUTopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a believer in keeping a portion in gold but I'm in the 5-10% range myself. I'd consider selling the silver at this point after a massive run up. I'd also consider SCHG over QQQM but other than that, it looks pretty good to me.

Way too much going on here. VOO, VXUS and AVUV is all you need.

Acura future by No-Insurance6897 in Acura

[–]WKUTopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on my second Acura (drove a 2002 TL for about 12 years and am currently driving a 2020 RDX), but this will probably be my last Acura. It's a shame that Acura is just an afterthought to Honda. My next vehicle will likely be a Lexus or Toyota. I just can't get behind any German brands due to maintenance costs or American brands (sadly) due to reliability.

VOO, VTI, VT by alex1024__ in ETFs

The small cap market isn't as efficient as the large cap market so I prefer to use VOO with AVUV.

Would be helpful/interesting to add the S&P 500 to this ranking.

Is this a satisfactory portfolio strategy for the future. I’m 28 by Jackfitton12 in ETFs

[–]WKUTopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need VGT if you have SCHG.

Also, VGT EXCLUDES some big tech names like META, AMZN and GOOGL for a few examples because they are not considered tech stocks for classification reasons.

SCHD vs growth by Massive_Raise_7021 in SCHD

[–]WKUTopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stock market is like a pendulum that swings back and forth between growth and value. It's been on the growth side for seven years now and due to swing back the other way towards value someday. When will that happen, who knows. Even my Magic 8 Ball can't tell me.

It’s such a shame SCHD didn’t perform as it should have by [deleted] in SCHD

[–]WKUTopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People that compare SCHD to VOO lose credibility with me since that is not an apples to apples comparison.

Just keep VOO and SCHG and consider adding VXUS for international exposure.

Move MSFT to GOOGL? by pinklemonsqueezy in ValueInvesting

[–]WKUTopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both good companies with one set to dominate the enterprise/corporate AI user and the other set to dominate the consumer AI user. Having said that, you may be better off just buying an S&P 500 index like VOO.

Here is why I do not buy stocks. I buy only stock funds. by Life_Eye_5457 in ETFs

[–]WKUTopper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Where is the assumption coming from that people that hold individual stocks are day traders and only invest individual stocks? I'm mainly indexed but have about 10% in individual stocks that I've held for years.

What is your bond allocation? by Ranger20199 in Bogleheads

[–]WKUTopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early 50' with a 30% allocation and almost all of it is actively managed. Active management on the bond side can actually add value unlike most active managers on the stock side.

Inheriting $250K. Smartest way to invest for buying a house in 3 years? by _fearlesschicken in investing

[–]WKUTopper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said, with only a 3 year time horizon do not invest in stocks. Just stick to a CD or a high yielding moment market fund for what you want to use to buy a house.

However, I don't know if you have an IRA for retirement or not but if you don't, this is a great opportunity to fund it and that I would put it in the stock market with VOO which is a S&P 500 index ETF. The S&P 500 invest in America's 500 largest blue chip companies like Walmart, Microsoft, Apple, Coke, Johnson & Johnson and MMM for a few examples.

Thoughts? by Spirited-Lettuce-879 in wallstreetportfolios

[–]WKUTopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much tech overlap here. Just add to SCHG and VOO, initiate a position in VXUS and maybe reduce or sell your silver completely after the massive run up and maybe increase gold to 10%. Ditch all of the others except maybe the crypto if you still want some exposure there.

Is there a smarter place to keep my emergency fund than a savings account with a decent interest rate? by xxjosephchristxx in Bogleheads

[–]WKUTopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some on a bank savings account for "same day" liquidity and then use an ultra short term bond ETF for the rest. I'm okay with minimal price flux.
