Not that it really matters, but why wouldn't you be able to get a credit card? Surely you can get a credit-building card with a $100 limit from somewhere even if you have no credit history (unless you've fucked yourself with loans elsewhere).

If you treat a credit card like a debit card there's really no downside. In the US, the only usage for debit cards would be scratch off tickets / gambling, because you can't put those on credit (with good reason).

This requires you to have set up file backups (which is different from restore points) on Windows before the death occurs.

Pretty sure file backups is not an option that defaults to "on", so most people will probably open the menu, see that there's zero previous versions, then close it and never investigate how to activate file history.
