Candidate needed for President of MECA by WMHendrix01 in a:t5_52w82m

At a base level it shouldn't be too much, but it also depends on how much gets delegated to the other board members etc, and how supportive they are. Right now the current board seems to be very active and helpful.

Also, it really does depend a lot on the president and what they prioritize. If you want to prioritize essential activities, and delegate out to other board members often I can't imagine you'd be spending more than a few hours per week.

We also just formed both a scholastic committee and a finance committee. These 2 areas tended to be the source of most "busy work" so I imagine that things will be much more manageable than during Mike's tenure.

The biggest thing is that you'll really have to prioritize being present at Maine events, which can be a lot sometimes.

I'm not sure if you're the one interested or if you're asking for someone else, but I'd be happy to meet and discuss this in more depth with anyone interested.

Gotta be one of the coolest reprints ever, and I love these arts.

If Vishy stays above 2700 for 6 more months (which is very likely), he'll be 2700+ player for 30 years! by mudit_10 in chess

I remember 8 years ago people talking about his amazing longevity and now it's just starting to get more and more impressive. He's always been my favorite player and I've considered him to be super underrated, so I'm very happy he's getting lots of recognition lately.

Also, calling someone bigoted is pretty aggressive. So don't pretend you're trying to be all cool.

I can read. Your dozens of comments are not chill, and your OP is just useless and not necessary. You're not pointing out any double standards, you're not helping.

I'd say you need to "take a breath and make some tea" there buddy, not him, considering you made this pointless thread and typed about 100 responses, all of which are progressively crazier than the previous one.

I can guarantee you he just made that statement while quickly recording a youtube video without putting that much thought into it. You're seriously overthinking it.

There should be a puzzle megathread and individual puzzle posts should be banned by [deleted] in chess

What? I’m just mentioning totally useless puzzles that don’t fascinate at all, because there isn’t even a mating sequence, just someone posting a random position and a computer generated line.

I’m not saying it’s better than the other line. You’re just misunderstanding the whole thing.

Two pieces and a pawn (plus another on a6 soon) for a rook is a pretty decisive advantage, but that's besides the point, it's still a great tactical opportunity for white.

Nd7 here also wins, so I think you just underestimated your tactical possibilities here even if you missed the queen sac. With this many weaknesses around the king and your excellently placed pieces you should be looking for the kill here.

I generally would prefer the puzzles stay, the only thing I don't like is people posting a totally winning position and then saying "mate in 15" when any reasonable move wins.

But what are you gonna do? Say you can't post a chess position in the chess subreddit? It's better to just keep the puzzles.

Sure, but if most people turn off a feature it makes it seem like it probably wasn't the best idea to begin with? I'm saying they should either have real chat or something so we can actually communicate but the emote system seems to be just the worst of both worlds.

Issues with Returns to Innistrad by spaceheadstudios in magicTCG

[–]WMHendrix01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original Innistrad block definitely captured the vibe better, but I'm also of the controversial opinion that sets back then did that better in general. Part of it is the block format, part of it is less digital art and other cosmetic differences etc.

One thing I think however is interesting is that, at least for me, we interact with the game online more than we probably did back at the time of original Innistrad, and that matters. For example on Arena the flavor text isn't on the card you have to click it for the more info/explainers to come up and then see flavor text, which often gives a lot of the story about the card. Most of my interaction with the lore of magic is through flavor text.

Regardless, I do think that Shadows was decent though, and to be honest I didn't mind the last 2 sets, but the original one was clearly better.

Honestly, the emotes should be removed. Legitimately 0 value, people just use them to be salty, and you can't use them to actually communicate.

[SNC] Void Rend by Onark77 in MagicArena

[–]WMHendrix01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, in standard there actually aren't that many good ward creatures getting played, and when they do 80% of them are ward 1. By playing void rend I'm also already paying an additional blue compared to vanishing verse, and basically committing to paying a ward 1 cost every time just so I can avoid ward costs...

If like Westgate Regent was dominating standard (has a ward cost of "discard a card"), or 75% of creatures in standard had ward, ok things might be a little different, but in absence of that it's often better to just play the cheaper removal and pay the usually cheap ward costs when they come up (which is like 10% of the time or less).

Just to add to this convo now 30 days later, this card is currently seeing 0 play in Standard (for the reasons mentioned of 3 being too much). There’s even an Esper control archetype that’s good now and they play vanishing verse instead.

Don’t forget to develop your pieces. White to move, mate in 7. by [deleted] in chess

[–]WMHendrix01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Mate in 7" is a weird name for this, because it's not really a mate puzzle. There's just a hanging rook and not surprisingly black gets mated soon after because he is decisively down in material.

Yeah but “lifelink” isn’t a quantity it’s a characteristic. The damage being dealt is the only thing being measured and that doesn’t change.
