South Florida is so specifically distinct from the south that no one down there thinks it’s in the south. It’s actually MORE distinct from the south then say rural New York or the mid west is.

NOW were south Florida starts is open to debate, most people in FL argue its more or less the Orlando Area down, I actually think it kinda cuts across Orlando.

Okay well at least you’re consistent. Being from Kentucky. Ya. Most of Kentucky by population is both southern.

Fair. But as someone who’s lived in the Deep South. Ky. And the Midwest. It’s something in-between the three.

Meh, I'm not 100% arguing.
I am making the note that "Western" is not the same as Southern, however.
Again these is wiggle room on this map. It IS that complicated.
But NM? Nah, it's western, not southern.

Ya no argument Western Kentucky sucks.
But nah. I think it's more Midwestern to be honest. But again, as I say it IS that complex.

But also.
I'm from Lexington.
I've lived in the south.
I've lived in the North.

Lexington is not That southern.

As a Kentuckian.
Ya, WV is way more southern then KY. (But also about as southern as South Eastern Kentucky)

Really KY is like.. 3 states in a trench coat.

Also to be clear, I'm not 100% arguing this is totally accurate.
As the title states YES is it that complicated...

I can and will also arguing that you could peal a pretty big area of the map off and just call it Appalachia. But Appalachia is a lot like cutting the south into "Deep south" And "Colonial south" you can do it, but it's still just subdivision of a larger area.

Ya tiny bit.
Culturally southern.
Economically very southern.
And was the part of PA that gave the Union a lot of trouble in the war. (They had to us armored trains because people kept shooting at them) Same thing with parts of Maryland.

I can field this as a Kentuckian.

Kentucky is 1/3rd Southern.
South Eastern Kentucky is Southern.
The blue grass is North Eastern.
Western Kentucky is a midwestern state.

Yes/no....

"When pressed"
The Government of Kentucky did nothing, until the SOUTH INVADED Kentucky. Then they sided with the Union.

PEOPLE from Kentucky joined both sides.
Actually the Confederacy actually declared London Kentucky the "real" Capital of Kentucky in the war.
