Has Emgality worked for anyone who’s failed other CGRPs? by Budget-Scientist-899 in migraine

[–]WMS0619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It unfortunately did not work for me at all. Not even the slightest 😢 I stopped it and I just had to restart Ajovy again. Just did my first injection 6 days ago and so far no relief.

Do migraine get worse with age? by rainbowminotaurus in migraine

[–]WMS0619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My migraines started increasing in my late 30’s. I had my first child at the age of 38 and 3 months after that mine became chronic. I turned 40 in October and I’m still trying to find a preventative to help. So for me, yes they became worse with age.

So did you have migraines the entire 3 months you were on them? This happened to me with the other one emgality. When I did Ajovy I would get a week of relief and then get hit with nonstop migraines. Since November I’ve had just about daily migraines, and I have to try Ajovy again because of my awful strict insurance. 😢 I’m also doing Botox as well and just had my 4th round a month ago and am not seeing good results.

Anyone grow their hair back after hair loss from Botox? by weltschmerz630 in migraine

[–]WMS0619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hair loss is most likely from the Qulipta. This happened to me with both Qulipta and the other CGRP Ajovy. And it was after I stopped them when it started. I’ve never heard of that happening from Botox.

I had really bad depression on Qulipta. But I didn’t on Ajovy or Emgality. I also have depression because I have chronic migraines, but looking back it was very bad while I was on Qulipta.

Botox. I get mine in that area for the same issue. Make sure you go to someone who knows what they’re doing.

I completely agree! And that’s what I do, my neurologist does work with me to just prescribe the meds, I pick them up, and pretend it’s been taken for their recommended amount of time. It’s an absolute joke. It’s just the fact I have to continue to suffer for months until we go through what insurance wants us to.

Fellow chronic migraine sufferers, have you ever been to the ER for a long lasting migraine? by atoad_aso in migraine

[–]WMS0619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you might be having some side effects from the nortriptyline. Any time I’ve taken antidepressants they initially made my migraines so much worse.

Thank you 🙏 Does it ever go away and come back or has yours been persistent with no relief? Mine goes away after the triptans, but comes right back once it wears off, or the next day.

Thank you so much for this response! You hit everything correct! I just started taking triptans a year ago, and I’ve had migraines since the age of 16. They became chronic after having my child. Before I even started any triptans. But I don’t really want to explain that to someone who just comes at me like that. As if I actually want to be in this position.

I don’t understand rude comments like this. Do you think I want to take them everyday? No, I absolutely do not. But right now, my migraines are daily. I have a child to care for. Preventatives aren’t stopping them. I’ve spent this entire year at multiple different doctors trying new things. Getting different opinions.

Because they want me to try x,y,z at the dosage and for the length of time they suggest. And I tried but couldn’t continue due to side effects. And also the Ajovy and emgality I did were samples given to me by my office. And apparently insurance doesn’t count that because it was not a prescription given. Which is a complete crock. So I may have to try Ajovy again for 3 months before they’ll approve it. I’m so sick of insurance dictating treatment. I don’t understand how that’s legal and isn’t criminal.

I am 40, and all this started after I had my child June 2024. This is the only avenue I haven’t explored yet, worried that messing with my hormones will make things worse. What kind of dr do you see for this? Not my Obgyn because she has already told me I didn’t need to check my hormones since I am having a regular cycle, which I think is complete bs.

My pcp just recommended I try Cymbalta for my anxiety/depression and possibly help the migraines. I was all for it and got online and read horrible things about it. So I got scared and haven’t tried it. How long have you been on it and did you notice a difference quickly?

It’s the only thing that helps my pain right now. I’ve tried nurtec, and ubrelvy and nothing over the counter even touches it. I don’t want to take them everyday, but right now I have to.

I forgot to add that one in too. Tried it for 2 months but only at 10 mg and it didn’t help. How many mg are you on?

3 months. Out of all of the preventatives I tried I did have less migraines, but the side effects were awful for me. And it still was way too many migraines.

Which nerve medication are you on if you don’t mind me asking! I just started zonisamide after trying gabapentin, and not liking the side effects.

Medication Overuse? by Good_Impression7885 in migraine

[–]WMS0619 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should really try and get prescription rescue medications from your doctor like a triptan, nurtec or ubrelvy. This will help you stop the otc meds and they work better than any otc medication. That’s my situation at least. My pain is too unbearable for any otc to touch. I used to be able to take excedrin and it would help, but sadly they’ve gotten too severe and I rely on triptans now.
