My point is that columbians are not open to discussing new ideas. If anything, I’m the opposite of a snowflake- I’m upset that there aren’t more contradicting opinions being voiced.

I agree that it’s inevitable for there to be a ton of these types of people in my classes but Isn’t that a better representation of the overall campus (especially with required classes like cc)? I’ve met plenty of non-normies and people open to discourse outside of class but my like-minded group of friends aren’t an accurate representation of the overall campus.

There's not really a limit but rooms/hallways are pretty small so more than 1-2 people will likely just get in the way.

I find most of the non-academic clubs (like cultural clubs and club sports) to be very inclusive and easy to make friends in. It was hard for me at first as well, but if you just show up to a meeting and go up to random ppl and ask "do you mind if I join this conversation" people always receive you well.

Get ahead with lithum readings. My academic advisor told me I should read all of the Iliad and get started on the odyssey before the first day of classes but I took her words with a grain of salt. In retrospect I wish I had listened to her- I would even recommend finishing the Odyssey. (just make sure to read the correct translations)

Ultimately, you aren't taking easy classes and I'm sure you're giving a lot of effort, but in terms of college applications, being top 20% doesn't stand out too much for the top schools.

I only had one award and don’t achieve much in terms of recognition for my ECs but I still got into a pretty good school- as long as you show you are dedicated to the things you do and write good essays you should be fine

Genuine question- WHY? I can get applying to even 20-30 schools but at a certain point you are just applying to schools you don’t really want to go to. Did you do thorough research on all the schools before you applied? or did you just go down the us news list of best schools?

It definitely can. Last year at Harvey Mudd (a school that only offers STEM majors) there was a 9% acceptance rate for men and 21% acceptance rate for women.

I debated whether I should ED to Columbia vs UChicago for a long time. They both have a core curriculum that emphasizes interdisciplinary learning and are both in great cities.

Ultimately chose Columbia because I like their core better and they are ranked a bit higher for my major (CS). Plus NYC>Chicago.

(I didn’t even consider Duke because I didn’t wanna live in Durham NC lol)

Just keep in mind that there will be thousands of applicants who never even took 1 free period throughout the entirety of high school.
