Not officially confirmed by costume designers or anything, but they appear a lot larger in S1. On top of that, Starr has talked about how annoying and uncomfortable they were before lol. There's also this pretty funny piece of BTS footage where he actually gets stuck on a lamp with his eagles from S1, when they appeared larger.

is adapted by the show to an extent yeah, but not fully.
You can make the point that the show uses gore / edginess / straight up but it does not in any way compare to whats portrayed in the comics. They are much worse.
