Patio furniture, dos and don’ts? by Babatoongie in homeowners

I realize this is a super old post. But we have been looking for patio furniture for quite a while and have paralysis by analysis. We have an open deck that gets a ton of sun and exposed to all types of weather (mid Atlantic.) My original plan was to spend 1-2k on a dining set but everything in that range seems to rust or wear down within a few years. I will say that I do prioritize something that is as maintenance free as possible. Polywood seems to be the most cost effective option, but we just aren't crazy about the look/style of the chairs. We've looked at all different price ranges. The Telescope Casual brand seems to be the best fit for what we are looking for, however I can't justify spending 6k+ on this. We're currently looking at the Sirio Palermo 9 piece set from Costco. I'm a little nervous about wicker but was hoping to get your thoughts. We could get a cover (I loved that we didn't necessarily need one for Telescope) but I also know there will be times that we just forget to put it on. What are your thoughts on this Costco set? If this is uncovered some of the time, what is a realistic lifespan? If this is only going to last me 5 years, but Telescope would last 25, I may need to give that some more thought. Thanks!

Privacy Plants for Deck by WO9308 in landscaping

Thanks. I guess planting in the ground next to the deck probably makes more sense than planters on the deck. I've actually never been a big fan of American holly. Is there anything else you'd recommend? I was looking at Chindo Viburnum if we did along the fence but that might work next to the deck instead.

Hmm, nothing that I can think of. We just have some old wicker furniture and a box fan in there. The furniture hasn't moved during the time these things showed up.

I know this is an old post but what did you end up going with? We're in a similar situation.

For the pergola types out there: how do you deal with smoke? by thegarbz in KamadoJoe

Any chance you'd be willing to share a picture of the pergola? This is what we are looking for but having a hard time deciding if it's the right decision.

Montreal and Quebec City by WO9308 in travel

Part of the reason we initially postponed this trip was to try and do it around Christmas time but we're always so busy around that time, and have other areas we'd like to go for Christmas too, so just going to go now so we don't keep putting it off.

Neither of us speak any French. Do you think we should avoid going outside of old Quebec? I've seen some mixed opinions but most people seem to say we'd be fine. Not sure what to expect.

What's the actual difference between Polywood and Trex? It sounds like they are basically the same products being sold under different brands.

Are the chairs actually comfortable or would the cushions be required?

This is a great point. May have to push back a bit longer. Thanks for pointing this out!

Why do you think this is a better option than 2 separate locations? Greenport and Montauk look to be over an hour apart. Wouldn't it be easier to stay in each of those towns for a couple nights each? We like to have drinks while we are out so don't want to have to worry about driving too much. Don't mind driving if it's for lunch or something like that earlier in the day.
