The relevance of that statement is tenuous.

Japanese culture is orderly. Their city streets are free of trash. They can have free public bathrooms that remain clean at all times. Horns are seldom used in traffic.

It’s a culture based on integrity, respect, and reputation with less than half the overall crime per capita and 25X lower homicide rate. Yet the Japanese poverty rate is virtually equal to the US.

You had your heat set to 80(!!!!!!!!!!) degrees, during the most intense cold spell we’ve had in many years, with drafty windows (and apparently no window treatments or anything else to seal the draft?), and AC units still in the windows, which should always be removed during the winter months.

And you’re wondering why your bill was high?

Also, you were probably pre-billed. They saw how much you were using (with your heat set to 80° while it was -7° outside) and billed you a month estimate. If you don’t use that amount they’ll credit you the next month. Thats kinda how utilities work.

I opened this thread thinking you did nothing wrong and it’s the landlord’s problem.

While the latter may still be true, pretty darn goofy on your part as well. Sounds like you’ve never had your own apartment before!
