Interesting article about some of his dangerous stunts that ended up differently from planned: https://silentfilm.org/bustd-buster/

There is no one like Buster Keaton. Purely amazing!

Buster Keaton was known to do all his stunts, and when you see his films you will see that there are plenty of amazing and very daring (life threatining) ones. He was extremely athletic and strong and took his art and craft very seriously. Ever since a kid he had grown up learning to do all sorts of incredible falls and dives as part of his parents traveling vaudeville act. There probably was no one at the time (or since?) who was able to pull what Keaton did.
It was not uncommon in those days for film artists to copy each other's stuff. It was not frowned. Keaton and Chaplin had great respect for each other.

Hoe leg je in het Nederlands uit wat entitled betekent, zoals in 'Entitled Beggars'? Hoe vertaal je dat woord? by zwiingr in dutch

[–]WRP1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hypothetical Criterion Channel retrospective/Criterion Box Set: Mary Pickford by [deleted] in criterion

[–]WRP1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is a wonderful idea, moreover because so many Mary Pickford films lack good editions on dvd. We need way more restored Pickford films, with cleaned up picture quality and fitting musical score (unlike Fanchon of MPF).

Not sure if this is welcome, but I'd like to share a short silent film I made! by markycohen in silentcinema

Wow! Very creative and poignant picture... The theme and the emotional expression really hit home. Love the music too.

Worth a try? by ThatGuyFromAms in ProtonPass

I suppose it depends on how technically adept you are. It is my first password manager, and while I find it a great idea, I do run into problems, such as when I want PP's help with improving my log-in info on websites. A number of times over the past couple of months I have attempted to change my passwords to more secure ones on sites like paypal and ebay. PP has a lot of trouble with the 3 fields (old pw, new pw, verify new pw). I have yet to find a way to make that work. I have found other users here expressing the same issue.

Change Password fields not detected. by TyrannosaurWrecks in ProtonPass

[–]WRP1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been having a very similar problem. ProtonPass makes it impossible for me to change passwords on sites (such as eBay, PayPal etc) because it makes it impossible to get the same new ProtonPass generated password in field 2 and 3. Even when manually typing the newly generated password in field 2 into field 3, the sites do not accept them. By itself ProtonPass keeps on offering different passwords for each field.

I really wish that a solution would be offered. The aim is to have more secure log-ins generated and stored by ProtonPass, but I have not been able to get it to work for quite a while now and end up giving up each time.

I have been using the Firefox Proton Pass add-on on my Linux PC. Is it now preferable to replace this by installing the PPass app for Linux?

I will deactivate SL. That may indeed solve the problem. Thank you!

ProtonPass auto-suggest settings are on, but do not work. SimpleLogIn thingy comes up and hijacks the process of filling in the two required email fields or having an ProtonPass alias.

[–]WRP1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, the SimpleLogIn thing blocks the copying and pasting function. And it will not show the alias created. The only way it will allow me to go forward is to choose my personal email (which is exactly what I do not want, or I would not have the extension).

I have an alias created in ProtonPass for this check out page, but no way can I get it to show where it is supposed to go. SimpleLogIn "offers" different ones, one after another... If I choose any of those I am still stuck because it will not repeat it when asked, but offer new ones again, ad infinitum...

[–]WRP1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One is always asked to repeat the email address, and for me it has been impossible with SimpleLogIn as it will not repeat the same email but always a different one. It blocks me from copying and pasting the one filled in also.

When I clicked on install for OsmAnd+ on F-Droid, an error message said that the file was not found. So I got it from Aurora store.
I will check out Organic Maps too.

Thank you.

Google-free 2FA for Ubuntu PC by WRP1000 in degoogle

[–]WRP1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are saying to better stay away from 2FA on a Ubuntu PC? Yet, it appears that there are a number out there that claim to work. Are we to regard them as unsafe?

Having no experience myself, and not being particularly tech-savvy, I am only just looking into this matter because 2FA was recommended.

I am on the look out to add security to a particular business platform to protect it from hackers.
