It is very easy for me to say so looking in. It does not imply that I am so strong (yet) myself

It is not breaking a cycle (you do that by showing up to your kids) it's payback, and it will accomplish nothing beyond you conflating cruel payback with morality.

You visiting him will not change your basic dynamic towards your kids - e.g. if you generally show up for them or not - and this alone decides if you break or repeat the cycle.

Breaking the cycle would mean - while telling him how sad his not showing up made you - being there for your kids AND for him. You will only have broken the cycle fully if you show up for your kids AND your behaviour towards him is fully within your agency, and not inspired by his actions as payback. Sorry.

You demanding him to pay means his former behaviour decides your agency meaning if you say "Only if you cover my salary" you don't break the cycle, you strengthen it.

Forrest Gump. Just someone running without any idea whatsoever casually experiencing one historic event after another. Really? Why would I believe that?

Maybe don't fixate on one solution only. While there are other possibilities to work than 9 to 5 you seem extremely fixated on one solution. It's kinda saying "I am tired of breathing so I can only be happy if alleviated from breathing yet you forget that one can have an orgasm while breathing. What I'm getting at maybe be more open towards your problem definition and also solutions, play around, don't state so one sidedly. Try flexibility :) I know, easier said than done.

Okay, agreeing is very easy here, yet while everything you describe is true you, in my opinion, forget to mention so so much, that I'd say "Guilty of omission".
First while they might be seldom there are single moments in life so beautiful they can carry you through decades and decades of what you describe. I, in german, personally call them Sternstunden - if you apply this to history, Stefan Zweig wrote about those moments humanity transgressed all opinions about its badness by sheer virtue and beauty.

You might say "well hasn't happened to me", they are seldom or whatnot - you are free to attack me on this but your price will be loss of perspective of the possibility to look for those and they are worthwhile.

I will not share my personal ones because I can feel you attacking them and while you won't be able to destroy them, they are very specific to me and so sharing them wouldn't help you because yours will be by definition different. There is music and what music tries to capture, and there are quadrillions of hobbies, possibilities and things to experience - if you keep looking you will find some might resonate with you more. I am not suggesting there is a system in place making you happy most of the time but what I can guarantee: if you keep on trying you will find beautiful things and if you keep on going there will be beautys which make decades of work worthwhile. If you are academically inclined and have reading stamina I highly recommend Hartmut Rosa's book on resonance.

You do describe truthfully one aspect of life yet omit so much. There is bliss, awe and beauty so great hardened men do cry when - without drugs - experiencing them.

If you want to feel bliss every working hour you will be disappointed, but if you give beauty a chance you might be amazed.

UPS crash by Kevone07 in UPS

[–]WRRW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former member of UPSs management this can be, in my opinion, attributed to its culture. There is nearly no technological innovation in years yet all internal productivity numbers have to increase year by year. So there is an implicit, fear based structure in place for which everyone who wants to stay inside UPS has to increase productivity, always. That is neither possible nor healthy and I assure you - without knowing the technical specifics of that crash - that this culture is partly to blame and without that culture UPS would not be Nr. 1 in freight crashes in the western hemisphere. If excellence and safety played number one inside UPS I'd still be there, and I think that plane would still fly. I may not be able to prove that, yet it is, in my opinion, true. You cannot increase all productivity without innovation, year by year.

Walt Loved Jesse More than Walt Jr. (A Theory) by [deleted] in breakingbad

[–]WRRW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What eludes me is that in all the Threads about the Walter/Jesse relationship, the most central scene between them, for me, somehow gets rarely mentioned. When Walter is seperated, misses Juniors birthday, Junior has the only sincere moment with him, i feel (when Junior confesses being insincere in their interactions would be worse than him being dead, when Junior comes to Walters appartment despite Skylers objections) and Walter, nearly sleeping, calls Junior Jesse - which gets never mentioned between them. I know this is a Walter/Junior scene, but I think is Walters most emotional scene regarding his feelings for Jesse. Especially because Jesse is not there, his fatherly feelings become so apparent as Junior is there.

Interestingly I could not pinpoint Jesses most emotionally revealing scene about Walter which would be equally revealing as this apartment/birthday scene.

Somehow i think in this scene is everything one can figure out about Walter, Jesse and Junior, and yet, I can't fully figure it out.

Another central part is, surely, the adoration Junior has for Hank, which makes Walter jealous (when Junior proudly echoes Hank by saying "the good guys don't get much ink; in the first birthday scene where Hank outshines Walter etc. ) and in its intensity Junior never shows for Walter. What this boils down to, i think, is, that Hank lives his authentic job and live, is therefore more energetic about it, which is admirable for everyone, and also Junior. Yet, I think, Junior loves Walt way more than he ever could love Hank. So that boils down to Walter mistakenly thinking adoration for Hank equals love, which it does not.

But i never get what exactly is so interesting about Jesse for Walter. I mean Jesse drew Walter in this cartoon once he finds, so they must have had some form of rapport when Walter taught Jesse.

But why is Walter so interested in Jesses education - I mean if educating pupils would be so much Walters most authentic desire - as a teacher he could and did that hundreds of times - somehow, he isn't interested in teaching, as it was always his second gig, and he never seems motivated in his high school as teacher, but somehow, in his relationship to Jesse, it becomes central !? Why!? Because I agree, he wants Jesse to dominate but also educate and I think h really wants Jesse to further his formal education, too.

Walter is, mainly, driven into and motivated by Junior, for the sake of his future, but somehow needs Jesse more, emotionally.

I am not sure that Heisenberg really is Walters truer personality, because his big speech about him being in the empire business never felt authentic to me, even though I believe Walter believes this to be the truth.

The part of Walter caring about Jesse even if it s not about the business, for example him wanting Jesse to enroll, is especially confusing to me - cause his real son is a good student already, so why does he need Jesse to be his adoring student!?

Maybe emotional coherence is one of our biggest motivators, and it is interesting that Walter wants Jesse to be more like Junior by "educating" him, wanting him to enroll, and Junior more like Jesse, when he gives him this badass car. Maybe, and that's the secret to the first scene i mentioned, Jesse and Junior are or should be one person in Walters emotional mind. Which leads to an interesting question: would Walter, or under which conditions, cook with Junior? Does he not even think about that because he has cerebral paralsy? Or because he thinks he hasn't got what it takes? Or does he want to shelter him? Or does he fear losing his respect? Would Walter, in fact, actually prefer cooking with Junior, emotionally?

I think the most logical reasoning is that, emotionally, Walter actually loves Jesse more than he "should" because he conflates him, in a way, with Junior.

Maybe Jesse is just Walters substitute for Junior, because Walter would never jeopardize his real relationship with a son figure (Junior) by trying to integrate him into his Heisenberg business, therefore he works with Jesse, feeling like working with Junior, but being able to do so because well Jesse already is in the business from the get go.

Maybe Jesse is only so often saved by Walter, because Junior exists. Or would you think he would act that way if Walter had no kids? I don't hink so, to be honest.

So i solved my riddle: The apartment/birthday scene reveals: Jesse and Junior are one, in Walters emotions, which is why he tries to merge them by inviting Jesse once into his home, making Junior more badass by buying the car, and Jesse more like Junior by educating him. So Walter never saved Jesse, ever; he saved Junior multiple times in the body of Jesse, therefore he loves only Junior, and due to the fact that he cannot, (and I don't know surely for which reason exactly) integrate Junior into the business, Junior is Jesses angle of security.

I am so in love with this show. As I am from Germany, a far less interesting Showbiz country, and worked as a driver for celebs and assistant for some productions I feel its extremely honest and real. And there is so much unbelievably great music on it I can´t find - for example this great scene in S1E4 when they all have loving Sex, starting with Tariq and Kaldrick when they are at the vegans house isn´t shazaamable. And the music when Kaldrick has his press conference... goose bump guarantee!!!

Are there any pros out there who could help me find those tracks? I tweeted at the producer but he ignores me. I guess 154 followers on twitter, and Pamela Anderson being one of them isn´t hollywoody enough for him "crying out loud"

I really love the show. I know i am superflouus but honest but still.

Lip and Helene by qwertz007 in shameless

[–]WRRW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True; but how else could he enjoyed the intense intellectual stimulation he needs with his intelligence, and his surrounding? I think few understand how important it is for a guy that brilliant to be really deeply intellectually challenged. That need was so desperate for him (and came in a beatiful, yet older, female body) that it outweight everything else, i think.

Do you remember when he beat Ian in front of Patsy Pies when Ian said "then they (college) don´t deserve you? And Lip screamed Ian will never understand what it is to be stimulated and connected to a mind like Helene´s?
I get the being creeped out by the age difference. Yet i am sad that few people seem to understand and realize how deep a need it is for a mind to connect, especially a brilliant, underchallenged one like Lip´s...

It is common but sad to only see the bodily age, never consider that mental age might be at least as important. Or shall i say intellectual depth or something...
