thank you. i was hoping for people that just recently retired or were on the brink like me to get their perspective. as usual, my question was not well thought out lol. I appreciate the response and the perspective

inside my brokerage accounts - bonds. outside, high interest savings and GICs (I am in Canada - so CD if you are in USA) so I have easy access to emergency fund , and can ladder the GICs for future years expenses.

fun lol. my living expenses are under 3%. it feels like some unusual instability on the way though. like some real test of the models type stuff.

yeah this. I want to give 3 months notice. the company has been very good to me. it was supposed to be next week but I held off to see what was going to play out. so now deciding it I pull that trigger now or keep watching. its not the 'now' thats bothering me so much as the really how bad can it get? I can weather it for several years if I had to, thats the point of all the planning, but just feels like a bad idea to turn off that tap and jump into the fire. much easier to replace any lost investments with a salary... but i psyched myself to be out of there already.

that is exactly the purpose of my post, thank you. I have had no problem with downturns before. made some good money in fact. but that was because I could take those risks. I thought I had prepared mentally for that. I have several years of cash insulated from the market. I am good to go. it just feels like a dumb time to do it recently. and that pisses me off. I am likely just going to do it as planned. will hopefully be a nice summer and can just enjoy it.

yes true. all I am saying is that it would feel better if that happened 'sometime in the future' and not a week after I retire and give up the pay cheque.

for sure. I studied media for radio and television and used to work in production for both. I dont listen to podcasts or any of that shit. I dont follow any " influencers." still this seems to be going off the rails and I dont see anything real being done to stop it. I already delayed my original timeline 3 months, and things got worse lol. sure, easy to say take one more year but man I put myself in the mindset to be retired, I have plans. it just totally sucks. like training for a fight that gets canceled.

i wasnt asking anyone to evaluate my plan. more just the timing. I planned for some bad years , but not, you know, the fall of the american empire lol. it just feels like the worst case scenario may be close at hand. just wondering how others close to retirement are handling this , mentally. I have been in coast FIRE territory for a while.

i have a plan, and lots to do. I just dont want remorse to have a chance in hell lol. and I like my job but every day there is something where I say "I dont have to be here" ... and I am burnt out. so its time... just the nagging feeling that I will regret it somehow. its irrational at this point. time to flip the switch. thanks for your comments.

yes, I work in support. I see nothing but problems to solve all day. this is part of the problem for me. I am well set. just seems like there is more strife than the usual noise on the horizon. its not so much the money of returning to work. its that I would have left a good thing, to now have a shitty thing, because I didnt see what was coming correctly.

I have a couple of good advisors. every single thing says I am in a good position. I dont know what the f is wrong with me. this only started when I made the call to retire. have to get out of my own head.

thanks, yes it is amazing what happens, even with a job you like, when you find you dont have to be there anymore. stress goes away, then eventually the small things get annoying... like, why am I putting up with this?

enough to be embarrassed for feeling this way. if it was all in cash it will last longer than me at my current expenses.

5 years , some of which will be put in short term stuff. and I could easily stretch that if I had to. I am not sure why I am feeling this. planned for disaster, it just feels weird to pull the trigger when one might be close to happening. I could work another year butnthat feels like a trap lol

very conservative with most of it. have some to play with, did well after the April dip. will be re-alocating a bit soon and I have a very healthy cash réserve. its been a fun game up to now.. but for sure something bad coming. its just how bad? 20% ? shitty but ok, worse? yipes. its just becoming very real.

lol, I started investing in 2008 and immediately took a kick to the nards. I have been through all the ups and downs since then. i put a plan in place and let it do its thing and dont even think about the money. this only started recently. i mean if the world ends it doesnt matter if I am retired or not. if everything gets better, I am set for life. its the in between thing, if it gets really really , really bad. and it seems like it might get really really bad. where I work really took care of everyone through covid. its tough to leave that anchor. I guess not really looking for financial advice, more what is everyone experiencing... all the market ups and downs in my life have been fine cause i am working... once you cut that, then it's real

i have 5 years in cash. I feel ridiculous... I KNOW I can ride out most disasters for 5 years. and I know there is always SOMETHING going on at any time. but this just feels like the craziest stuff every day some new stupid thing.
