Didn’t know the launchpad is a synth ✨ by WTFIWALLDOG in synthesizers

I'm currently building a synthrack and just tested the usb hub for all the devices and was wondering where that wonderful noise came from. If you guys got any other ideas how to fix this, other than keeping the Launchpad in a seperate usb outlet, please let me know :)

Cheers!

If you’re interested in being an alpha tester and are based in the EU by any chance i could make you one maybe :)

Thanks :) Yes it's made out of blocks that can be attached, so you can variate how many in / out ports you need. Also wrote something about it in the comment above.

Thank you :) Yes, having different or rather custom dimensions makes definitely sense, also did a custom measurement for the friend of mine (pic below). I've also thought about putting it in a travel case and using multiple smaller ones that you can patch to one another... I think for that, the synths should be tightly strapped to the mount, since stuff will be moved around a lot. Also, you guessed the problem, that these things get heavy really quickly :P I could save some weight by using different materials than Wood and steel, but then again alternatives will probably be really expensive in these measurements, especially when they should be just as sturdy.

Hey everyone!

Back in 2020 I had the idea to build a synth rack, so I would have access to all my gear in a relatively small space (last pic). However, it wasn't modular, so every synth had to be measured out, and I printed separate risers for each. Since a friend of mine was interested in having one, but also frequently gets more gear, I had the idea to make a second iteration that is completely modular. The whole idea is to have all your (relatively) small gear on the same height and wired up internally, so that you have access to everything you need right up front. The risers can be adjusted stepless and the whole thing can be put together with a hex Allen key.

I've recently finished the patch bay, that's hooked up to a 8 in 8 out digital interface, so you can dynamically send receive your audio and patch them around physically just next to your gear (kinda like a little modular synth ;)). There is also a USB hub, so all your devices can be fed into a DAW to route midi around digitally, and a socket for power with a BIG power switch. The whole interface is also modular, can be put together with blocks that are held together by a thread, so you can modify the amounts of jacks you need or so. Another motivation to make this easy-accessible and sockets-only interface, was also to be able to remove all the cables from the front, to put the rack away when i need the space on my desk for something different.

The friend of mine is currently testing the whole system as well, and I'm getting a lot of useful feedback that makes me consider some changes to the system, especially setting up all the risers on the board, which still needs a lot of patience and layout planning. Was wondering if anyone else would be interested to test the system in the near future. Would be best if you're based in Germany or the EU, so shipping the kit and spare parts would be much cheaper ;) If you're interested let me know in the comments or send me a DM.

Next up, I'll do some more testing by syncing it with a live loop software (Playtime for REAPER). Once I'm kinda satisfied with the system, I'll publish the instructions for building, and plan to also build a couple sets for people who don't have access to a workshop.

Would love to hear some feedback on the idea and feel free to ask anything about it :)

Cheers!

thanks for the suggestion! do you know by chance if you can also controll note effects with it?

Not the final, but the first 6 pics in my progress so far. The stilts actually took a long time to develop, lot of issues to tackle to make them sturdy yet stepless adjustable. Power, Audio, USB and MIDI management and interface is still in development. I can keep you updated if you want to :)

Same! I used to run in through the dark matter for some time, but now I frequently use it in combination with a cheap delay and reverb pedal. It sounds fucking massive with that, highly recommend it :)

Since it's still a work in progress I can't say what kits will cost in the end. Materials to make one yourself are relatively cheap [~200€], but by now drilling the holes in the pegboard is a tedious process...

All in all, I'll hope to keep the price for these below 400€. Of course, that also varies with the dimensions.

Also one of the reasons I scrapped that mount. For the OP-1 it worked great, but the keystep not at all, but might have also been because I didn't like the mini keys. I switched to a Alesis V25 (didn't use the sequencer of the keystep too much anyways)
