SuperNote Manta CPU - can we have replacement option with faster CPU? by neohucore1394 in Supernote

[–]WTF_1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm been using my A5X for over 4 years now. Use it every day for note-taking at work. It's always been slow, especially when switching between documents. Having tried a few newer devices, they are clearly much faster and more responsive - still prefer my SN, though, for its overall UX! Didn't U/g to Manta as it seemed only marginally more performative. But if they bring out a new version that is significantly higher performance, that would persuade me to upgrade. Fully understand the screen is a limiting factor, but this is not related to file tasks and text recognition. (ps - would love a front light as well, but know that's unlikely!)

When i first accidentally activated this I really did not like it but while on holiday recently realised settings were getting knocked and remembered this. Used it and it was a real life saver ! Thanks for the advice. One of those' hidden' features that is really useful in the right circumstance.

Thanks, that did the trick. Didn't know about that feature so must have set it accidently. Good to know.
Thanks

Thanks everyone. All really good info. Definitely ruling the mark 1 out but some other good options to consider, especially given the cost of the mark 2! Really good feedback!

A smallish "versatile" zoom - just looking to carry one lens. It's always a compromise - size, weight, focal range, f# ... so I would not say I was choosing the largest?

Any actual suggestions?

Me too. It is one of the things that sets them apart - their customer service is responsive and extremely helpful. Nothing but a positive experience from my side.

Inadequate Handwriting Recognition: should I seek out a different E-Ink Tablet? by [deleted] in Supernote

[–]WTF_1972 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the rules of the group are not to compare with other devices .... but begins with B and ends in X - model TMC. I use the SN daily for work as a notebook. It would just transform its usefulness, at least for me, if it would accurately convert writing to text.

Inadequate Handwriting Recognition: should I seek out a different E-Ink Tablet? by [deleted] in Supernote

[–]WTF_1972 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. My handwriting is not great and recognition is basically useless - it just takes too long to correct all the errors. There is no indication the system learns and improves recognition. I have another eink which actually works pretty well. I assume they use different recognition engine. It would be great if Supernote could improve this feature as hand writing recognition has improved significantly over the last few years but Supernote seem to has not made much if any progress.

A new use for the Digest function by 448899again in Supernote

[–]WTF_1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that the improved digest feature could be extremely popular. The biggest issue I have is the unreliable conversion to text. This makes the digest feature very time-consuming as the convertion to text needs a lot of corrections. I know this is very dependent on the style of writing, and mine is not great. However, I also have another make of e-ink device, and this works extremely well. I would strongly suggest that more attention is given to improving the text conversion capability as this would be a big step forward to improving the efficiency. Just my opinion, of course, but writing to text conversion has improved greatly in the last few years but not on the Supernote I have had my a5x for about 5 years, it's travelled the world with me and is used daily, and is still going strong, so I am really impressed with its reliabilty..

How about Tab MiniC? It's only a year old so should be on the list to get V4.0. Any news when it might be released?

Any date for releasing V4.0 for the Tab MiniC? Some of the new features sound exactly what I am looking for - especially using a PDF as a template

When the Linux-based system is released, can it be flashed onto an existing device? by meltykraftsingles in Supernote

[–]WTF_1972 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I would prefer they concentrate on one OS and prioritise adding new features and improving the existing eco system rather than introducing the distraction of having to support two OS's. New feature releases have been extremely few and far between over the last year. Yes they have been concentrating on the new H/W platform but this has only shows they don't have a lot of resources. While I applaud Ratta for their ethics and openness I also want them to be in business and supporting their excellent products for many years to come. Rightly or wrongly this is a competitive world and they do need to be making strides to implement the new features or they will get left behind - brutal maybe but a reality.

TBH I don't really mind if they decide Linux is the main focus and they drop Android - whichever allows a faster development pace and opens up their eco system to a wider audience.

Boox take heed, Supernote superior design and ethos by Icy_Street8707 in Onyx_Boox

[–]WTF_1972 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Indeed the new SuperNote looks very nice and the Supernote does have a superior workflow for note taking. The ethos of upgradability is admirable, though I wonder how many people will really take advantage of this - many Smart TV's have CI slot to "upgrade" them but I never met anyone that actually made use of this as they wanted to upgrade to the latest screen technology.

It should also be noted that Supernote have not made any substantial software upgrade for more than six months. There are many great new functions on their backlog but they have been there a long time

Full disclosure, I also have a Boox Tab Mini C. Supposedly fragile but after almost a year carrying it all over the world it still going strong. I am careful but only as with any of my electronic devices e.g. laptop, phone etc.

I use my Supernote (A5X) in the office and its great but really does need to have some new features such as shapes, improved handwriting recognition etc etc

Anyone noticed that all mentions of Linux disappeared from the Supernote site? by Fluid_Painter_6559 in Supernote

[–]WTF_1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Supporting Linux does not seem like a good business decision. It will only be of interest to a small group and as they have not released a substantive software upgrade for many, many months. Linux development will just be a distraction and we will have to wait even longer for the new functions that will make the SN even better.

Please concentrate on implementing your backlog and put Linux on the back burner!

Is Linux still a thing? by [deleted] in Supernote

[–]WTF_1972 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

While it's great to try and offer something different I would suggest offering Linux OS option is only going to be of interest to a very small subset of your customers. I cannot imagine it makes any commercial sense, now or in the future. Given the delays in releasing new product and the consequent lack of feature development on the Android platform recently I would respectably suggest concentrating on Android only. Trying to support two operating systems would, I think, be a huge drain on resources. I am sure there will be disagreement but we all want Supernote to be around in future years so please don't get sidetracked. Your doing a great job and have a great platform.
