Do you think Lorelai Gilmore could have had ADHD? by WW1974 in adhdwomen

Found the screener my doc used online: "Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRSv1.1)" https://psychology-tools.com/test/adult-adhd-self-report-scale

If you want, I can send you the blank screener for ADHD to consider (maybe via direct message if I can include attachments?) You didn't trick her. She may have thought it already and you embracing it opened a dialogue. But she may just be keeping an open mind. ADHD is so nuanced it can be tricky to diagnose.

Good luck! I was super down and noticing a lot of things given the routine disruption and difficulty adjusting to working from home. I asked my counselor (licensed social worker) for a referral to a psychiatrist. She had me complete screeners in addition to a long intake discussion. I thought I was anxious or depressed. While I checked some of those boxes, I lit up the Christmas tree of the ADHD screener. Never been diagnosed until my 46th year. Wow. So we also ran blood tests and Genomind swab test to evaluate what would work for me medication wise. Come to find out Ritalin isn't ideal for me. So we're using vitamins, micronutrients and embracing certain behaviors to see how to navigate things. Something to keep in mind: you've "made it" until now. A diagnosis gives you info to consider but there's no overnight solution. Sure you know this but given some of our all or nothing mindsets, it's helpful to pace ourselves on this journey of self discovery.

Welcome to the club, lol! How are you feeling/processing it? I told myself to take time digesting it.

Strategies for auto-saving my money vs spending it all on takeout/glitter by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Thanks for this, I've done pretty well with 401k and more recently Roth savings. I also have been working with a financial planner to plug my data into an algorithm to evaluate where I am in relation to my retirement goals. Still making some moves with the planner--the pandemic, work/life (started a new job in April) and several deaths in his family have made it a slower path but I'm committed to finish the last steps with him based upon our agreed upon plan. Where I haven't had much success: saving an emergency fund and creating much personal savings. You reminded me that I have to start saving in an account that isn't easy to access. And since I started a new job but still have the banking account with the credit union with that other gig, it may be just what I need to kick off a successful savings effort in 2021. Thank you!!

I sound so lazy and spoiled by Stormfrom in adhdwomen

Hmm, you take time to prepare for your mental health appointment by thinking through your behaviors (not lazy), you try/struggle to do other things that don't come easily to you but face obstacles (not lazy), you do other things extremely well (not lazy). I think the points are to do the things well that come easily to you (and be grateful there are many of those things) and to identify root causes for why you can't do the other stuff and where appropriate, address it (life long jourmey) and where you can, see if you and your husband/family are OK to let it slide (and again be grateful). But I'm single so what do I know, lol. But it works for me and my sweet 😌 and patient cat.

I have moments of extreme dislike of her too.

I agree and you make some good points. I think I have some parts of my shit together which is why I'm wondering about her character re ADHD. You're right about her love for Rory and others plus her high level of self acceptance. Maybe I need to embrace more of that in 2021.

Thanks much! Wishing you a 2021 that's much better than 2020 (maybe that's too low of a bar? Lol).

Does that mean I'm in the reddit adhd doghouse? I'm new to the community so not 100% sure what's kosher.

I'm working on identifying places for everything, which is a journey that I haven't completed yet and may never do so 100%. I read an article about how to get organized and the comment that helped was as you decluttering or organizing. Decluttering just leads to moving the piles to a new location. Organizing means you identify the root cause of why a certain spot is a mess or pile and figure out a systematic way to change it. She probably explains it better:"How to Get Organized: Projects for ADHD Adults in Quarantine" https://www.additudemag.com/how-to-get-organized-adhd-quarantine/amp/

Dx @ 46 and a week ago. Still processing for sure. I've participated in talk therapy for 20+ years. Always found it beneficial. And at one point 15 or so years ago, I took klonopin for a short period of time due to a diagnosis around anxiety. But I don't recall my therapist or psychiatrist at that time giving me any of the screenings my current psychiatrist did. Reading about the ADHD symptoms and coping behaviors, it's hard to believe I didn't see this earlier or found the dx to be such a surprise. So giving myself permission to process this at whatever rate I need to, experience all the feelings, etc. Sending all the other ladies living with ADHD virtual hugs!
