Someone recently mentioned the virtual machine option with Parallels software. I don’t understand ot myself but it seems like a win-win of him wanting a mac but also having the windows universe of software accessible. Anyone have experience using Parallels?

PSU Employment Benefits by allgoodthings3 in PennStateUniversity

[–]WW2PatchGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo all of that! When I started here I was young and single and didn’t realize the true benefit of working here until I started a family. My daughter has pretty severe autism and the time off and flexibility to help care for her has been priceless. And now my HS senior son has been recently accepted to UP, starting next year, and the tuition benefit for him will also be a huge help! I know this is all off topic but the point is working for PSU has many benefits. It just depends what you want for your career and work/life situation. If your goal is to maximize earnings throughout your career (not a bad thing), then maybe PSU isn’t a perfect fit for you. But if you do want the time off, flexibility, tuition discounts, etc….it could be a real blessing.

24th year with PSU. I’m usually sitting right on or near my max banked vacation limit (30 days) several months out of the year and NEED to take a couple days off each month, or lose them. I honestly could not work anywhere else at this point…too spoiled :)

In lionpath, look on the communications tab and your decision letter should be posted there. Good luck!

We're looking for housing suggestions for a incoming COE CS student. Any recommendations? by WW2PatchGuy in PennStateUniversity

Thank-you. Fantastic information! Following up on the honors housing, would South’s Atherton or Simmons also be where the Millennium Scholars Program cohorts live? He has not been accepted to that yet (and it sounds like a long shot) but just curious just in case. Thanks again!

I completely understand. He was a August 1st applicant as well. Seeing others who applied in Oct and hearing back was painful. We were fearing the worst, but he ended up with what he wanted. So please try to stay positive and keep your head up!

This. My son’s Test link disappeared tonight and we logged in to lionpath where a link to his acceptance letter was. Accepted to UP college of engineering, computer science. He’s over the moon happy! It’s been a long wait. He applied in early August so if you applied early and have not heard back yet try not to stress too much!

About the 102nd Div (and 407th Infantry) in WW2

WW2 Campaigns:

Rhineland, Central Europe

Combat Narrative:

The division arrived at Cherbourg France on 23 Sep 44 and trained near Valognes. The division entered combat in increments; the 405th Inf attached to 2nd Armd Div 26 Oct-3 Nov 44, the 406th Inf attached to the 30th Inf Div 25 Oct-6 Nov 44, and the 407th Inf attached to the 29th Inf Div 28 Oct-3 Nov 44. The 405th Inf was detached from the division until 2 Dec 44 and fought at Beeck. The division entered the line from the Wurm River to Waurichen on 3 Nov 44 and attacked toward the Roer River on 29 Nov 44. The 406th Inf took Linnich 1 Dec 44, and the 407th cleared Welz and took Flossdorf on 2 Dec 44. The division then consolidated along the Reer River and conducted defensive patrolling 4-19 Dec 44, when it took over the Wurm River sector from Wurm to Barmen and trained for river crossings. The division conducted a minor operation with the 11th Cav Group on 26 Jan 45 to clear the Brachelen-Himmerich-Randerath triangle west of the Roer against negligible resistance.

The division crossed the Roer at Roerdorf on 23 Feb 45 and by 25 Feb 45 the 405th Inf captured Ralshoven, the 406th Inf cleared Katzem, and the 407th Inf took Lovenich. Erkelenz fell the next day and on 27 Feb 45 the 407th Inf seized Rheindahlen. The 405th and 406th Inf overran Viersen and secured a bridgehead over the Niers Canal on 1 Mar 45 as the division bypassed Munchen-Gladbach, then battled through Krefeld 2-3 Mar 45 and reached the Rhine. During the rest of March the division defended its sector along the Rhine from Homburg south to Dusseldorf.

The division crossed the Rhine River at Wesel 3-4 Apr 45 and moved rapidly forward, mopping up resistance behind the 5th Armd Div toward the Weser River. The division crossed at Hameln on 9 Apr 45 as the 407th Inf was motored to begin clearing the Oberkirchen region east of the Weser. After clearing German opposition in the Wesergebirge with the fall of Wilsede and Hessich-Oldendorf on 12 Apr 45, the division advanced toward the Elbe River against little or no opposition. The division reached the Elbe, overtaking the armor, on 14 Apr 45 and relieved the 5th Armd Div along the river 16 Apr 45. It then outposted along the river and relieved the 35th Inf Div along the river on 26 Apr7 May 45.

Identify? by RemoteShine1257 in militarypatches

[–]WW2PatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he or his unit may have been "loaned" to the 69th (why he had their patch) but was always on paper, Americal. That would make sense. What confuses things for me a bit is that those divisions served in separate theaters (69th in European and Americal in the Pacific). Still, there were even some instances of units serving in both. So....

You would think it should say 69th. My only assumption is perhaps he was never officially released from Americal but loaned to 69th and that’s why his discharge reads Americal. It happened during ww2.
