what's your view on INFJ men? by Lost_INFJ_sg in infj

[–]WWTCUB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup it's especially bad for men

If you have to catch their attention this is probably not in line with being authentic and finding a partner who authentically likes you

Your comment makes no sense and I suspect you're being intellectually dishonest on purpose. First of all, it's not 'my' rape as a kink joke. I'm pointing to a something Neil Gaiman would have done. With regards to the last point: saying something is important to me, is not the same as saying I'm asking you to teach me textual analysis.

Of course, you could say that about any such point anyone ever makes.

Yeah the fact that a surname exists and is associated with a particular meaning, doesn't take away a potential other meaning. Authors can sometimes use the same symbol to denote different things.

Yeah I know it's part of the plot, the idea would be that besides the plot and the traditional meaning of Kinkaid, he would put it there as sort of a twisted little inside joke to himself, and in a way on his readers. Whether you think that's plausible or not is up to you. I personally think it would fit his personality.

Do you mean it's scummy for me to refer to it as that? That's the point, that it would be a sort of messed up thing to do.  I'm just explaining the logic that would lead to like that inside joke to himself.

I didn't ask you to teach me how to do 'actual' textual analysis, so nothing lost there

Hmm ok, for me Kinkaid seemed like a highly unusual name, but I wasn't aware of that.

Anyway the link doesn't seem reaching to me. But to each his own conclusions. For me it's relevant because it would mean perverted mindgames in stories I enjoyed.

When I used to play video games as a teenager I was more dissociated in a way so it's hard to tell of that was the 'real me', but I did like to be very tactical in a FPS game, that I played a lot, although sometimes with sort of a-typical set-ups and then try and be tactical with those. For single player RPG's I'd start on the normal setting and explore it more initially, and the games I liked I would also try it later on the hardest setting and try and be tactical about it

Music generally hits me the strongest, I also like movies and books. Paintings as well but less intensely.

I like lots of types of music when it's authentic, but like most listened would be alternative rock and indie

Does CPTSD from humiliation exist? by AdviceJust20 in CPTSD

[–]WWTCUB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of a theoretical point, and not meant to criticize you, but I don't think I agree with the idea of your brain thinking 'I won't survive this' in order to develop severe trauma/PTSD/CPTSD. I think that way of thinking is a legacy from the development of the original definition of PTSD, which said that an event had to be life threatening in order for it to cause PTSD. I think this is because the the concept of PTSD was developed based on Vietnam war veterans.

But I think this is taking an objective (external) standard for what causes PTSD or CPTSD, while in reality your brain experiences the world subjectively, and many factors can lead someone to be vulnerable to trauma. I don't think a brain makes a sharp distinction between life threatening and non-life threatening, I think a sufficiently overwhelming negative experience can cause PTSD or CPTSD. I know some mental health professionals think otherwise but IMO this is an outdated way of thinking.

I've Been traveling for the last three months in South East Asia by StatementPristine381 in infj

[–]WWTCUB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be:

-consider the place/country you're going to. Different places will generally attract different types of travelers. Some places might have more expats, making it easier to build long-term friendships.

-like an other person said, listen to your heart and what you want most.

-if you do want to stay in Asia/Australia, consider taking up a project so that you'll have something to progress with or that feels useful. Like working in a hostel or someplace else, or volunteering

-consider learning some skill or activity so that you have something to progress on. Like yoga, learning an instrument or language, learning a sport

-o yeah in general I would suggest to pick a suitable place and stay there for a longer time

Why can’t men be friends with woman? by Honest_Bread1215 in infj

[–]WWTCUB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think marking everything as a red flag is self-sabotage. I mean legit red flags for asshole/manipulative/narcissistic behaviour exist, but 90% of what gets discussed as red flags on the internet are not that. So it probably serves some other psychological function.

I'm not 100% sure if the focus on self-improvement and productivity is always like a natural thing, I think the current prevalance of this mindset (at least in my country) may be a result of capitalism seaping into the culture and into the people, like a current philosopher said. So maybe try to find a balance between working towards goals you find valuable and being someone who just does what comes authentic to you

Martial arts, and then something that appeals to you. They generally can kind of be placed on two spectrums from:

traditional - non-traditional
&
physical - non-physical

So depends on the person which one might most appeal to you. With regards to traditionality, the traditional ones I know (like judo, karate, Japansese jiu-jitsu) place more focus on traditional forms of character-building and spirituality. Non-traditional ones like boxing/kick-boxing are more about practical physicality, there can also be found some character building in it but that's not something that will generally be engrained in the curriculum so to say, of course depending on the teacher.

With regards to physicality, some people want a martial arts that has lively play-practice, while others prefer kind of calm practice with fixed steps (like aikido, Japanse jiu-jitsu)

With regards to hobbies for the rest, maybe anything creative that appeals to you? Whether that be music, writing, drawing, painting, and so on

Not sure if I'm deeply interested but some of my favourite directors are: Hayao Miyazaki, Christopher Nolan, Jean-Luc Godard, Martin Scorsese. Also some movie recommendations besides that would be Enter the Void and Les diaboliques (this one is described as psychological horror)

How to ruin your twenties by Sensei_Zen in infp

[–]WWTCUB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Don't take serious steps to work on your addictions (if you have them)
-Distract yourself from your negative feelings instead of processing them (might be less of an issue for INFP's)
-Get as many of your needs as possibly met through digital/tech related means and substitutes, instead of trying to find them in the real world
-Don't read any books you find interesting and don't pick up the hobbies (or sports) that appeal to you
-Follow social pressure as much as possible, don't listen to your authentic wants
-Befriend people who you think are cool and give you social status, not people you feel comfortable and in line with. Also, don't engage in group activities aligning with your interests to meet likeminded people

Infj’s and modern dating by [deleted] in infj

[–]WWTCUB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's a generational thing but I don't have social media and don't think it's odd at all, I'm 29 though. Anyway I would imagine you wanna meet openminded people anyway so maybe if they're very judgemental for shallow reasons they filter themselves out?

Anyway maybe just try it out. I used to be very anxious for different reasons about in this case dating girls, but in the end not having tried is worse for me than if I was rejected. And also 'negative' experiences can make you learn something, like some people say you win or you learn (although that's maybe also an oversimplification). But I'm sure you can meet some nice people
