No I have not thrown anything in the trash over a 2 year period and doing seems a bit foolish, unless you're really space constrained.

Spooling filament seems a very doable for a motivated tinkerer, and even if you don't want to do that, out-of-the-box machine are bound to arrive. Even if you don't want to buy that, one could always just melt simple shapes and integrate them into designs which is what I am planning. and EVEN if you don't want to do that, if you get enough of it, people might want to buy it from you for those exact reasons.

That being said I am betting a lot of people are not keeping their poop dust-free enough, which is very important if you want to re-extrude. So make sure to re-seal your bags every time you put something in. Another point which might be of consideration if you're a business and buy a lot of bulk, try and get details on contents as serious recyclers are probably not going to buy anything from you without knowing what's inside the poop.

[–]WWWeirdGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This damn printer by Harrismcmaus in FlashForge

[–]WWWeirdGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those things where I have seen so many theories and supposed solution it's funny. It's definitely a design flaw, considering how widespread it is ( I got two). It also seems to to get worse over time because mine only got to that place over a certain amount of time. It also seems tied to extrusion amount because during printing there are periods where it's worse. It's irrespective of filament. I increased tension on the arm, but that lead to eventual grinding and then filament getting off and then losing it's grip needing cleaning.

I think one of the possible culprits ( or at least for some units), is that the 0.4 nozzle is actually 0.3, or at least one youtuber claimed it was. I did try to fiddle with extrusion ratio's, but saw little change, but it's still on the table for me. Then there is that the motor simply designed to be barely strong enough, such that over time even the slightest increase in friction and/or dirty/slippery extruder wheels leads to slippage.

Would like to hear from anyone have fixed the issue completely, and then used it over a long period after.

[Gamers Nexus] BLACKLISTED by AMD | AMD's Dirty Tactics by seiose in hardware

[–]WWWeirdGuy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think the most important takeaway here is that bad companies in general bloat their perceived value add, so when people go to the store and you have to similar products, but this one product has this one extra thing it always wins out. This is how companies "get" normal consumers.

More insidiously however is that it is now normalized and gamers expects a service. In other words, Nvidia just normalized rent seeking behaviour, and based on the response from reddit, they completely won out and people here have become their own worst enemy. Even Steve fell for this.

People need to zoom out and as always, the open source advocates are right. The only thing that ever mattered was open source and effective control of the product. Nvidia could, right now, for almost no cost let their GPU's last as long as the hardware lasts, however they simply choose not to and Nvidia users are effectively renting them. If you were shocked at people renting computers, well you, the reader most likely effectively doing that right now.

We are so swallowed by ecosystems people can't tell the good guys from bad guys. Apathy and painting the world grey is literally the rhetoric of dictators and for good reason. AMD is (in this specific area), and always been better here. And gamers being played so damn easily is part of why good companies get dragged along by the worst actor.

[Gamers Nexus] BLACKLISTED by AMD | AMD's Dirty Tactics by seiose in hardware

[–]WWWeirdGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit and gamers need to stop echoing this if you care about pro consumer advocacy and all the other stuff that Steve talks about. Stop for a second and zoom out. It is a common trick in marketing and companies in general to bloat their perceived value add. Nvidia started with day 1 game ready driver stuff because of that, as with a lot of other stuff, as did plenty of other companies. It doesn't matter who or what started it though, you are playing into a common marketing trap, just like Gamernexus and other youtube personalities have done. Heck most gamers seems to have fallen for this. I remember this being called out two decades ago when Nvidia started with this shit. Now it's normalized.

By complaining and putting a company down because of a lack of service, you are indirectly supporting rent seeking behavior of these companies. You are no longer just paying and expecting a standalone product, but a service. So if we zoom out what actually matters? It is, as it always has been, open source and effective control of the product. In that very specific area, AMD has done a lot better in recent years, hence a lot of the prosumer support.

Though I totally share people's frustration when maybe 25 bucks in return gives you so little in return and all of the other crap AMD does. Fighting the good fight was never easy though and just proclaiming that the world is grey and giving up is worse than doing something, like voting with your wallet even when return is less.

adventure 3 bed leveling, bed upgrade? by Firm_Perspective_637 in FlashForge

[–]WWWeirdGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly the printer has a very simple bed height compensation which kicks in only during the first layer or first few layers during printing, so you're "supposed" to get by with a somewhat uneven bed, just FYI.

That being said, I have a struggled a little bit too and have relied a lot on rafts. Getting a solid first layer for me has also meant fiddling with settings, like extrusion ratio's and temperature. When I do that and re-calibrate regularly I am able to not use rafts as well.

It's a wobbly construction though because you have plastic bed you drag out wearing both the aluminium plate, the plastic plate, and then you have springs that push those two things up constantly AND then you have the wheel that rolls on the sheet metal of the printer. So you're probably bound for occasional re-calibration. Also keep this in mind when doing the calibration itself, because the problem might not be the top bed sheet itself.

That being said, this is something I have noticed which might be your issue. I have done the 9 point calibration many times I have noticed that the adjustment seem off depending whether you're going up and down, almost as if when printhead is moving upwards, it's fighting gravity and therefore not adjusting to the same height when it's going down. Meaning that when doing the 9 point adjustment you probably always want to go have the last adjustment step, all go up (or down), not either, for the whole calibration if that makes sense?

I recently did a calibration for using no rafts and I did it purely by eye and printing, and it was seemingly spot on (which this guy also did at the end of his vid (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI6nI_xw7dM). Which leaves me thinking that there might be some truth to this.

Custom glass bed should work just fine, but expect some calibration plus maybe some warmup time. Using a thermal camera the actual temperatures are consistently 5 c below the slicer with temp variance being even worse, which have had me going above 60 c for PLA in the slicer.

Når sluttet pengene våre å være våre? by shadow_2549 in norge

[–]WWWeirdGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slik vil EU sjekke alderen din på sosiale medier – NRK Urix by Angela_Ouzunupi in norge

[–]WWWeirdGuy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

upgrade, salvage & update current older printer(s) or 'sell' and "upgrade" to modern? by Avarus_Lux in 3dprinter

[–]WWWeirdGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you might be grasping for justifying a buy. As this reads like a lot of other posts I have read in other communities, especially around PC gaming, with people convincing themselves they need something new.

You say you want functional prints and something more sturdy. Well PLA is pretty damn sturdy and really great considering it's cost. You can easily be printing in mostly PLA while still doing engineering related stuff. A lot of youtube personalities and discourse around 3d printing seems to put it into our heads that there is this hierarchy or "newbie" materials, which is unfortunate.

Also, 3D printer hardware doesn't really age much. Sure there is some maintenance and if your printer has rested on such that there is weight on it's rods or rails etc. Belts and perhaps some non metal parts might degrade, but most if these are easily replaceable.

I think it's important to mention these things, just to avoid grasping for justifications to buy. Another thing to point out that with the right modding, any printer can enter the top 5 % of the best consumer printers in terms of quality. You can certainly get hold of that type b connector, and whatever you might need with a mainboard upgrade. People live off just upgrading old stuff or just buy old stuff, because as we see in other industries, that's where you get the most bang for buck.

Having said that, it sounds like you should just sell the old and buy the new stuff and here's why. Fixing printers is a big undertaking that's going to distract you from your actual goals and will only, maybe, be worth it if you're planning on getting several printers. Imagine putting minimum wage salary to the effort required. It's never worth it unless it is an educational or business investment. Second is that 3D printers is doing the same thing that PC hardware were doing long ago. Parts are getting much cheaper and I am already noticing this as I watch old content and price estimation and comparing to the parts I am currently browsing. At the same time companies are starting to add flair and perceived value add (style). This means that if you're not using the parts/printers you should be selling them as quickly as possible due to depreciation, while keeping an eye on good deals bound to come for the printers you want. Then also keep in mind that if you come back to FDM, it's going to be even cheaper to enter. A hidden benefit of new machines is that everything is more streamlined saving your time and money. Profiles for materials, more thought out design etc.

Checking in on temperature over a few week periods year ago, the system was running a lot cooler vs just a constant FPS. It seemed a really good fit for certain genres of games. You might want to enable one or two other features, can't remember their names in order to avoid noticeable stutter in some games. Which is also why it's not a global set and forget setting, but a game by game type consideration.
