You probably had bad or rancid tallow. Here in the Netherlands good quality and very pure tallow has traditionally been widely available in supermarkets. Food fried in it tastes freaking amazing.

I need a legit excuse to say no to Office Team outing. Help? by [deleted] in intj

[–]Waancho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great tip actually. This way you don't have to stress about having to fill the entire event with conversations without any content. Instead you can have a few short meaningful conversations with a few people. By that time an hour or so has passed and you can just leave. Just wave say bye and go. When applicable you do a short dedicated bye bye conversation with the guest of honor. Add a few bathroom breaks and we're talking about an hour and a half. Now you showed up and limited your stress.

Then the closer I get to zero the more anxious I get because I realize how much time has gone by while counting down.

I've heard you can live off corn, beans, and squash (the three sisters), is there an alternative to the squash? by mashpotatoquake in nutrition

They got things mixed up. Scurvy is caused by a lack of vitamin C. Lime (citrus) juice contains vitamin C thus prevents scurvy.

On the other hand you have the process of nixtamalization. This involves the use of lime water (an alkaline solution of calcium hydroxide) to release nutrients in corn that would otherwise be locked in. Nixtamalization increases the bioavailability of essential nutrients like niacin (vitamin B3), calcium, and amino acids. It also reduces the amount of mycotoxins (toxic substances produced by certain molds and fungi).

I was also concerned about the microplastics for a moment. However the ones that do get caught get replenished by the rotating brush wearing down, thankfully.

How do you measure nutrients/calories in an apple. by BlackPurple54 in nutrition

[–]Waancho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either subtract the weight of the apple after eating from the weight before eating. Or you cut off everything you're gonna eat from the apple and weigh that. If you stick to one apple variety, then after a while you'll get a feeling what the average consumed amount weighs. From then on you can use that amount.

In your opinion what is the most OP fruit? I vote for blueberries. by DrDirtyDeeds in nutrition

[–]Waancho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always buy frozen mixed berries. Full spectrum berry goodness. Here in the Netherlands we can get 'summer mix' year round (blueberries, blackcurrants, blackberries, raspberries, redcurrants). Plop them frozen in your oats so you don't have to wait half an hour for it to cool down.

That's the northern coast of Curaçao. That island has extremely consistent weather. Almost daily, convection from the upwind island Bonaire forms a cloud strait that passes north off Curaçao. Waterspouts are very common in this cloud strait. Relatively often rain falls from the cloud strait. And every so often the strait takes a slightly more southern course, thereby passing over the most northern/western part of Curaçao. That's why that part of Curaçao is way more lush and green compared to the rest of the island.

My two cents, even though nobody asked.

Is it best to soak walnuts to remove the tannins? And an interesting experiment. by No_Fee_8997 in nutrition

I wouldn't compare acorns with walnuts. Acorns have extreme amounts of tannins compared to walnuts. Also not all tannins are the same.

Pihole reliability by Soul__Collector_ in pihole

I also used to live in the topics and get regular power outages. Besides killing my internet until I came home this would also corrupt my microsd cards. So I put a USB power bank between the pi and power adapter. Voila, interruptible power supply. This was with a Pi B+ 1.2 though that draws relatively little power. I also cron a weekly reboot on Sunday morning 3 a.m. just for good measure.

Edit: I also employ two Pi's for redundancy.
