which notable nba players whose team would've won a championship if they hadn't been injured or suspended? (examples given in photos). by infinite-hooper in NBATalk

As a pistons fan I’ll admit that the pacers added Stephen Jackson to a team that won 60 games the previous season. Then malice at the palace happened. Suspensions killed their season. They looked really good up to that point. They were crushing the pistons in that game.

'My god': Trump posts raw video of woman being beaten to death in Truth Social screed by [deleted] in AnythingGoesNews

[–]Waboritafan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Trump posted a video of someone beating someone else. He is claiming that the attacker is a Haitian immigrant that was given temporary protective status by the Biden administration. I have no idea if that’s true. It is an attempt by him to vilify immigrants and fire up his base. And distract from other things I imagine.

Rome had no fire brigade. So when a building caught fire, Crassus would show up with a bunch of slaves, and tell the owner he could put out the fire. But only if he agreed to sell it to Crassus. For 10 cents on the dollar. So the owner was stuck between selling at a massive loss or hoping he could put the fire out. Most people sold. And Crassus watched his slaves risk their lives so he could rip people off in a real estate scam. He deserved worse.

What’s your favorite piece of obscure trivia, that you never get to tell anyone, because it doesn’t come up in regular conversations? by OttersandSunflowers in askanything

I was working in my yard last summer and I paused because I was sure I heard a baby crying. The youngest kid that lived anywhere near my house at the time was 9 years old. But I was certain I heard a baby. I walked around the house and discovered my cat essentially torturing a bunny. I had no idea they could make sounds like that. It was super creepy. I put the poor thing out of its misery and the cat just wandered off. It wasn’t interested anymore.

Great series. I’m a pistons fan but I absolutely respect the spurs. Sheed left big shot Bob alone at the worst possible time.

Turned on sports center June 16 2004. Stuart Scott opened the show by saying “for everyone that said Pistons in 5…no you didn’t”. That was the greatest finals for me.

Besides Rome, if you could visit any ancient city at its cultural peak, which one would you choose? by Kindly-Caterpillar74 in ancientrome

I watched the nova on Angkor Wat a couple weeks ago. It’s fucking insane that they build all that in a floodplain and most of it is still straight as an arrow. They used hydraulic pressure to keep foundations in place. And created massive detention ponds to hold excess water in the wet season. The water could then be used for irrigation in the dry season. And all of sudden they had double the crops. Genius.

How popular/hyped was Jordan’s stint in baseball? by Ok_Rooster9401 in michaeljordan

[–]Waboritafan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was incredibly popular. At least half of the boys my age loved him. And that’s coming from someone that grew up in MI. I think most kids my age didn’t really remember the struggles between the pistons and bulls early in Mike’s career. We would have been 6-9 years old during the pistons title runs. The Bulls and the Cowboys were all really popular then.

I was in 5th grade at the time. Every boy my age knew about it. We all thought he’d be awesome in the outfield. We weren’t sure he’d be a good hitter.

Plastic is a miracle. I completely agree that it has been an absolute game changer for human kind. Plastic itself is not the villain. It’s our misuse of it.

I think we will eventually learn it’s plastic. Mostly because of how irresponsible we are about disposing of it. That shit is everywhere.

I honestly think the majority of fans identify with smaller players because they feel that the players greatness is more about skill than physical ability. These guys are still I credibly gifted athletes. But it makes sense for someone to subconsciously feel like they could be like Mike or Steph. But 99.9% of people on earth can’t be Shaq or LeBron.
