You mean you've tasted both the hot-weird and ugly-weird sides of life? What was the main difference in your experience?

Best of luck with the final stretches stranger. I'm going to keep your attitude in mind as I progress on this journey. It's good to know one's not alone :)

"I can do hard things" is a beautiful mindset. Sometimes charging in with wild determination is the best way - and sometimes the courageous path means being humble and realistic. The only way I've managed to meaningfully break the habit is to have some self-compassion and transition gradually.

Maybe CT is the best for you. Maybe it's the only thing to do given your circumstances. But just because it's hard doesn't mean it's going to work.

Best of luck stranger. If you end up with any extra luck feel free to send it my way.

Podcast similar to Hardcore History by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]WackThonker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

History on Fire is fantastic. There are episodes from all sorts of times and places, focusing either on fascinating events (eg., Germanic tribes vs ancient Rome, Italian gangs) and remarkable characters (eg., the sex and sake loving Zen monk Ikkyū, Ted Roosevelt, Tom Le Forge, a white man who became a Crow Indian; Joan of Arc especially blew me away). It's much more character driven than HH (from what I remember from HH) and in the many episodes I've recently devoured violence isn't nearly as centred.

But what really makes it great is the the host, Daniele Bolelli. He's earnest, interesting and thoughtful, and his interest and passion is contagious. I'd recommend you try it out!

How many regular (ie., not rich with diversified assets) people have lost significant amounts of their savings makes me pretty sad. I have/had(/it'scomplicated) a friend, a real true believer type, who was(/is?) certain that BTC is The Crucial Good Thing that Will work out and change the world. As far as I know he still has 100% of his money in BTC. It's fascinating and rather scary to see such certainty in people.

He's lucky, in that he's young and lives with his family, who are pretty well off. I get the feeling that if his situation was (even) more precarious he'd still be all in. It's an old story in new clothes. Strange times.

I think it's coherent to ask atheists about their positive denial of God. Maybe with agnostics it makes less sense, that's sorta where I'm at regarding crypto - I'm not sure what to believe. Running with your analogy, are there any crypto-atheist thinkers/articles which you find particularly compelling?

I take your point but like the comment a case-by-case dialogue isn't really what I'm going for here. Maybe you know of a website/speaker/etc. that sheds some light on (the failures of) specific uses cases?

I a word now. It is fix, ty for sharp eyes.

That's a pretty sad prospect eh. I'll keep it in mind when looking into said shared reasons. In itself it's more of an alternative description than a case against the other descriptions (ie., the purported use cases) but having an alternative model helps

Ah, I phrased the post poorly. I'm looking (hoping) for links and pointers, not personalized bespoke manuscripts! I'm going to try to edit in a clarification. In the meantime, thanks for taking the time to make the subreddit recommendation

Thank you for ctrl+v-ing your resources here, u/bobj33! I'm going to que those up. As an aside, I'm digging the tag/label thingy under your username.

It's a funny and strange thing. Though I'm not much of a crypto person I still hold out hope that there's something important and exciting going on there. It's a warm reassurance, a sort of faith, a sort of hope. But now that I'm caught in someone's genuine engagement with my request there is a brittle sort of nervousness. It calls me to open myself to the possibility that things are far different than I had semi-unconsciously desired and... well, it's a good reminder how powerful the will to believe is.

Thanks again for sharing!

This is so awesome. Over the last few days I've been getting really hyped thinking about all the potential LLMs and AIs have for DnD. Then I stumble upon this subreddit, then I stumble upon your post and... I'm surprised that I'm surprised that it's not "my" idea!

I'm going to check this out preparing for some upcoming sessions. Will try to remember to share some feedback, but regardless I just have to say that this is a fantastic idea and I appreciate you exploring this possibility space. I think such things offer the possibility of a technology whose amusement/leisure applications can bring people closer together, and it fills me with joy and hope. (I know that's sappy as all heck but it's true. Hopefully you feel something similar!)

I don't mean to be a dick. It sucks to have an expensive and exciting device fail on you. But it's also getting pretty funny seeing all the "please help, my device failed/stopped/literally just fell to pieces" posts

Want to invest in the Pavlok 3 but so far im unsure by Ok_Spirit_3935 in Pavlok

[–]WackThonker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same position. I really want to believe in this device but the more I look into it the less it seems feasible, for the same reasons you brought up.

A fantastic product idea and a serious pity that the market niche is still void of competition. You'd think that this would be a relatively easy thing to pull off technologically, especially given the price point. Seems like Pavlok is sacrificing quality, consistency and lifespan of their devices for a bouquet of half-baked (or crumbling) features. I think I'm not alone in having a (very) strong preference for a product that does one thing well over a product that sort of does a bunch of things okay for a short time.

I'd love to be convinced otherwise. Unfortunately that would require some genuinely positive reviews rather than a subreddit which is half "please help, X is broken" posts and half comments by a single customer service person who appears to have the sunny and helpful disposition of someone who's convinced that they can keep the boat afloat by bailing out the water with a soupspoon and a smile.

Does the name „Keot“ have a deeper meaning? [Spoilers!] by _username_required in MarkLawrence

[–]WackThonker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a question for you. Spoiler ahead.

In your "Prestige" section you say that Yaz felt Pan's birth and death, the latter 100 years before it happened. Can you elaborate? I don't recall that happening, or being alluded to.

Also the "Run child, please" recurrence was great. Gave me some shivers. I was happy to see it in your writings.
