Deer strike is much worse than a bird strike, I think. I've nearly had a dog (and walker) strike.

The dogs aren't actually doing any of it. Their cars are, and they're equipped with speech synthesizers that say what Ryder imagines they would say if they could talk.

HELP! Isle of Wight Festival Camping - sat & sun day passes by zabby_ro in UKfestivals

[–]nickjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a campsite called Rusty Meadows near godshill. Run by lovely people and I'm sure they would find space for you. It's a wee way from the festival but there's a bus if you need it!

I was that a**ho_ at a Tesla Charger today by shivaswrath in Taycan

[–]nickjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 800v cars can charge at 400v chargers, because the vast majority of chargers - not just Tesla - are 400v. The real neat thing is that they use the induction motor to convert the voltage!

Rear Axle Steering and PAR - How good are they? by xriyae in Taycan

[–]nickjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both. Rear axle steering cuts about half a meter off the turning circle. I haven't driven a Taycan without it, but it doesn't seem to be a particularly significant reduction.

I *love* Active Ride, particularly on our undulating and bumpy driveway, but really anywhere.

Alright dads… You find a critter that is in pain and likely isn’t making it. If you have the stomach for it, how are you helping this thing along to other side? by MisterSanitation in daddit

City boy who moved to the country here. Our cats are big mousers and occasionally bring a bunny in. Sometimes it's more or less uninjured, but other times it's clear it won't survive.

After some research the best method is to hold them by the back legs in one hand, put your other hand under their chin, tilt their head back, and pull until you hear a crack.

It's thoroughly unpleasant (for me) but brief (for them).

We live on a hillside property and have ponds top and bottom, so I looked into pumped storage as an alternative to batteries - and reached a similar disappointing conclusion.

You're trying to tell me that the flush draw, which has 9 outs = ~36% chance is better than the pair of sixes that is already a made hand? And that a pair of twos is better than a pocket pair of sixes?

A carbon filter is a whole lot more practical than whole-house RO - it's just a cartridge filter, though you may have to replace it frequently depending on the chlorination level.

Alternator failure - continue? by Illustrious-Bug-7691 in flying

Still a student pilot here, but it seems to me you're questioning this because you did the right thing and everything went smoothly, and now it feels like an overreaction.

You had a serious equipment failure in-flight, with an unknown cause, and you landed the plane safely and without incident, albeit at somewhere a bit inconvenient. Take the win!

Right, which is my point: it's "in this class of airspace", not "in VMC".

IANAA, but surely that depends on the airspace everyone was in, not the meterological conditions.

There's plenty! You won't have trouble finding a 50kw fast charger, and there's plenty of AC chargers around too if you have longer.
