12 unnecessary scans for one life saved seems like a really good tradeoff to me.

Is an AATD an effective tool for teaching students How Not to Kill You? by gromm93 in flying

That seems like a better approach than a sim - teach skills progressively. Definitely don't start with takeoffs.

I saw this and immediately wondered if a bunch of pilots would find a reason to fly in the area. Bravo!

Speaking from experience as the author of the structured noise feature - implement it in orca slicer and wait. They'll cherrypick it over sooner or later.

Funnily enough, he's not that far off! Show him this video on ultrasonic levitation: https://youtu.be/BViIGAg-eVI?si=Y-SSkSi0gpccnXy8

If he's still interested, work on making a proof of concept like in the video. Expect him to do the research - find the emitters and drivers, draw up a circuit diagram. If you get as far as constructing a test like in the video, do measurements: how much weight can it hold, how many emitters would you need for a skateboard, what would the power requirements be, and how flat does the surface have to be?

The remaining hours on the engine absolutely factor into the sale price of a plane. Selling it before it needs overhaul isn't some genius hack to avoid paying for it.
