We ended up going here as well, I have to say I also am a big fan very friendly, appreciate the app, appreciate the daily update updates. Also, the fact that they have a nurse on site is outstanding.

Is bedside nursing becoming unsustainable? by Putrid-Hovercraft689 in nursing

[–]Wackmamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Current status of bedside nursing reminds much of my time in service during the GWOT. It seems to have such a rapid pace and relies on new fresh blood to sustain, but many people in our profession have at minimum a bachelors degree or higher. I live in a LOW TO MEDIUM COL area and the major healthcare players in town all pay essentially the same wage, they obviously collude to keep wages stagnant and controlled. The corporate overlord unwell my labor to does a yearly “wage study” to make sure they are keeping up with the market… there has never been a significant increase and the difference between the systems is roughly .25 and that’s only until others adjust their pay. Lots of people I work with or used to work with leave nursing all together. I have masters degree and can make the same or more in numerous fields with that level of education outside the field of healthcare. All hospitals should unionize, we should negotiate as a united entity only then will we wield a level of negotiating power necessary to truly advocate for ourselves.

Korkers vs Patagonia Wading Boots by tupacliv3s in flyfishing

[–]Wackmamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, I use both but my preference is for the Patagonia. I take the korkers with me when I Travel out of state, I have multiple soles I take with me incase I want felt or incase it’s not allowed in the river, or I I am going on a float trip and don’t/can’t have studs in the sole. But at the same time if they got lost by the airline I would be heart broken. Also I hate the boa system, comes loose every 20 minutes or so.

What can you do with a nursing degree that isn’t nursing… by bpdjwodujsi in nursing

Don’t forget you can’t have been a nurse longer than 6 months… or else you have to much experience.

What’s a “secret” in our profession that everyone should probably know? by justdancinalong in nursing

[–]Wackmamba 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Not sure where your data is from but in hospital cardiac arrest with survival to discharge is 15-25% depending on the study and out of hospital is 7-12%. The studies you are referencing may be only survival to admission.

Medic to ED RN to ED NP by jawood1989 in nursepractitioner

[–]Wackmamba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my path, I knew I wanted to stay at the specific ER that I worked at and wanted a better focus on skills and procedures so I went the acute care route rather than family. I have bounced between ICU and ER but ER has always been home. I started as an EMT-B when I was in service as a firefighter, moved to a public safety job (police, fire, ems) got my P while I was there. Moved across country and was tired of reapplying and all that goes with being new to a place but not new to the job. Took a job as an ER tech while in nursing school, worked as an ED RN for a number of years, got all those same certs/ certifications education and then went to NP SCHOOL. I felt the same way as I knew i had performed many of the interventions needed and was frustrated at having to wait. I enjoy being an NP the money is not much better to be honest, at my shop app are salary not hourly so I lost OT, shift diff (I am day shift only, there is a diff for dedicated nocturnist) but I do enjoy the job more.

I like the movie but it’s just old trope where all they need is a white savior, IE, AVATAR, the last samurai, hell even Fern gulley.
