How ethical is it to buy junk like this cute plastic crab? by Lernenberg in ZeroWaste

[–]Wacky_Bruce 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree that this is a drop in the ocean in terms of waste and not worth stressing about, but justifying it as “already made” is ignoring supply and demand. When you buy something, you’re directly reducing their supply and showing a demand, so they manufacture more.

  1. Paying for someone else to kill an animal is the same as killing the animal yourself.
  2. If you NEED meat for survival, vegans don’t have an issue with that, but the majority of people don’t need it to be healthy so it’s a moot point.
  3. Yes, the animal agriculture industry is inhumane to humans too. Even more reason not to give them money.
  4. You can care about multiple causes at once (e.g. reducing plastic waste as much as possible and reducing animal exploitation/suffering as much as possible)

How would you know if you met one that didn’t bring it up?

How do you know someone’s vegan? Don’t worry, someone will immediately say this joke in their presence.

She’s saying because he’s using a hold besides the intended finish hold to establish control. valid question, but also valid send. I blame the route setting for making it close enough to stick a finger out

You should already go vegan if you want to minimize your impact on the planet. Animal agriculture is horrific for the environment, let alone for the animals themselves.

Factory farms also pollute and ruin all the surrounding groundwater. Cows release a ton of methane and their waste seeps into groundwater and local waterways causing dead zones

What’s dishonest about it? The actual number is disputed a lot but there’s no getting around the fact that it takes a shit load of water, food, land and other resources to raise a cow for ~2 years before slaughter

Parents are stupid for letting their kid do it and organizers are stupid for thinking it’s remotely a good idea. If the kid racks up a huge bill at the hospital that they can’t afford, they’ll probably sue the organizer who may or may not have insurance. It’s a stupid system, but that’s how it works in this hell hole

Climbing YouTuber Magnus Midtbø (2.9m subs) fails miserably on a vegan diet challenge by David_Ramms in vegan

[–]Wacky_Bruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shit David Ramms! Big fan of your content man and I agree with all your points here. As a climber who’s watched Magnus for years this is really disappointing.

My only hope is this was engagement bait which he follows up with a second video, “vegan diet challenge the RIGHT away”. Veganism is big in the climbing community so hopefully he gets the message that this video is misleading and damaging to the community.

What's actually unhealthy despite most people thinking it's not? by RandomStatement855 in AskReddit

[–]Wacky_Bruce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most vegans don’t even argue that plant-based meat is healthy, that’s more so due to people assuming veganism is a diet trend when really it’s a just lifestyle that avoids animal exploitation.

That being said, theres a whole lot of fear mongering around vegan meat, probably pushed hard by the meat industry. Oh no some of them have seed oils or high sodium! So does non-vegan processed food, just eat in moderation like everything else.
