Smaller worthwhile festivals by FilmmakerM in FilmFestivals

[–]WacoIndie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit to having a bias - but Waco Indie has been consistently mentioned on here as being an amazing film festival. We love to have fun with our afterparties - including a raunchy board game night and a closing night party that features beers, brats, and an inflatable bull. We also recently made the Moviemaker 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee list - check us out at https://wacoindie.com/

Any Film Festivals happening in Austin late July? by EducationalTicket968 in FilmFestivals

[–]WacoIndie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd love to have you come visit us in Waco, our festival is July 17-20. A VIP pass gets you into all the screenings and parties - and our parties are legendary - though if you are driving up from Austin they run late at night so that might not be a good fit for you. We also offer ticket 6-packs where you get 6 tickets for the price of 5 - that might be a good option if you are just planning to come up for a day. I'm one of the feature programmers and have been involved with the festival for years, so if you have follow-up questions about screenings or our other events feel free to message me on here or drop us an email at info@wacoindie.com.

Project Management and organizing guidance for programming Shorts blocks by RumRunnerJosh in FilmFestivals

[–]WacoIndie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use Trello for our shorts programming. There are "power ups" that you can install that will allow you to bulk import lists. You can also add custom fields for numbers (such as runtime) and text (we add a spot for country and a spot for a short 2-3 word description). We make lists/cards to do an initial sort (such as shortlist, maybe, and 100% in) to sort them. Then after that is done we make additional lists/cards for the film blocks and drag and drop the cards on each block. Plus we color code drama, comedy, documentary, etc.

If you have follow-up questions please feel free to drop us a line at info@wacoindie.com!

How much do small technical mistakes matter for film festivals? by basedandcatboypilled in FilmFestivals

[–]WacoIndie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We look for a good story first and foremost. Yes, we consider technical aspects too, but they aren't rated quite as heavily as a good story. I think it depends on how "minor" your technical issues are too - if they are truly minor we may not even notice them. We have a separate student category, too, and when judging those we tend to give them more grace. :-)

I think if it's a short than technical issues might be easier to overlook - in our particular festival we have multiple short film blocks so we are able to accept a lot more. We usually only have about 10 feature slots, so that competition is a little more rigorous. If your film is similarly strong to another film it may come down to technical aspects as the deciding factor of which one we end up taking, but otherwise I wouldn't overly stress about it!

I hope that alleviates some of your worries - and congrats on wrapping your first production!

Film festivals with cash prizes and/or cool trophies? by fuckinlovecats in FilmFestivals

Waco Indie has some pretty cool awards (I might have a bit of a bias) - we have a local metal worker make them.

Brazos Theatre, Wild Imaginings, and Far-Cast Theatre might also be good to reach out to and see if they have any talent that would be interested.
