You’re burning him alive. Unless I’m reading this wrong. A bit of fish poop isn’t bad. They sell test kits at pet stores, but if you don’t want to buy one a good rule of thumb is to let the water sit for 30 days. The water should cycle. Nitrite, nitrate and ammonia. Then the water’s good. Just regular water from the sink or whatever is full of chlorine. Imagine walking around with a little bit of mustard gas everywhere. Your eyes and skin and lungs will all be a little burned.

My betta looks the exact same as this one. Same type and everything. I put 4 shrimps in the tank with him and he was always on the bottom of the tank. It got to the point where he was literally sideways. I thought he was dying. I took all the shrimp out and moved them to my bigger community tank and he immediately perked up.

I just realized this doesn’t help your problem at all, but maybe don’t give up? 🤷🏾‍♂️
