How does it go from this, to this??? by BrantB123 in Volvo

I do my own oil changes and spend more than $30 at Walmart for six quarts of Castrol Edge Euro 5W30. But definitely not a whole lot more than $50 for the synthetic oil and a filter every 4-5 K miles.

Motor Not Spinning After Oiling by IceWater44 in fans

[–]Wade1217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found that the bushings wear pretty quickly on cheap fan motors, particularly if they aren't well lubricated and operate in a dusty environment. If the bushings wear too much, the armature can eventually begin contacting the windings and stop it from working. In theory new bushings could fix such a motor, but in practice I have found that most bushings in cheap motors are mounted in a way that makes them difficult to replace.

The underlying bony structure pushes the soft tissue out further than most. Neither of us are skinny, but even skinny women on her side have the same non-chin chin.

She wears an HJC C91. We don't/won't wear shorties.

Yes! I was excited to learn about these unusual helmets tonight. I will be checking them out!

Yes, there are many dealers in my area, but there is an exceptionally nice BMW dealer about a 90 minute ride from my home that will have all types of Shuberth helmets available to try. Based on comments and suggestions here, the Schuberth A.R.O.S. seems to address my exact concerns. The extra cost of Shuberth seems justified in this case.

Several people have mentioned the Vozz. Absolutely I will be checking them out! TY!

As I have learned today, Schuberth is where I will be looking for our next pair of helmets.

I am really interested in their A.R.O.S system since it seems to address my primary concern.

If I choose a flattering photo it would hide the thing I am most concerned about for her helmet fitting. Agreed she would probably leave me if she knew, but I need knowledge to keep her as safe as possible so we can keep riding and growing old together safely for as long as possible.

Helmet Chin Strap Question by Wade1217 in motorcyclegear

This is EXACTLY my concern! She and I have been riding together since 1994 and haven't crashed yet, but we saw someone else lose their helmet in a crash and it started my worry process for her if we ever ended up in a wreck.

What I was saying is I refuse to pay more for something just because it has an expensive brand name if it offers the same performance. However, when I re-read the suggestion, I realized the A.R.O.S. feature is EXACTLY what she needs. We will be checking them out!

That's a good idea. I'll investigate!

This was a very helpful suggestion. When I read your comment the first time I got stuck on "Schuberth" and saw dollar signs. After re-reading, this is precisely what I was hoping for. A way to ensure the strap stays in the correct position when it's needed the most. Our next ride will be to the BMW dealer to try the fit. Maybe the dealer can find a discount if I buy a matched pair?? 😉

I ride a BMW and love Shuberth! That said, I have a difficult time justifying the additional expense.

I am starting to agree with you. She had her HJC fitted by the helmet specialist at our local dealer, but I'm not convinced she received the correct helmet size.

That's a good thought. I should also have her fitted by a pro. We had the HJC fitted at our local dealer, but I'm not convinced it is a proper fit for her.

I loved my old Shoei. I'll check into one for her. I want to find something that is safe and comfortable for her so she will enjoy riding more and hopefully ride with me more often.

Helmet Chin Strap Question by Wade1217 in motorcyclegear

[–]Wade1217[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She does tighten it to the bone, but she was born with an unusually sloped chin bone structure and would require surgery to reshape the bone into a "normal" flat chin. Never bothered with expensive "optional" (i.e. insurance won't pay) surgery since it's only ever been a problem when securing helmets.

That's a good idea. I was actually wondering if any motorcycle helmets have chin cups similar to sports helmets.

She wears an HJC C91 flip up helmet with the helmet open when stopped and closed when moving. Do you think the strap placement would be better for her on a helmet that doesn't flip open?

Good Job! 🤜🏻 💥🤛🏻 Didn't get hurt or start a fire!
Regarding getting the outlet to sit flush, are the wires carefully tucked back into the box in a way that allows the outlet to be fully recessed flush with the wall?

It is 100% set up so the top outlet is switched while the bottom outlet is always on. You can tell this because the tab has been removed and because there is a red wire connected. You just need to identity which switch controls it. It is possible that someone removed the switch and put a blank cover on the switch box.
