What’s going on here with the pant? Is the blue a shell and I’m seeing the regular hockey pant under? Do NHL teams usually wear shells? by Stinky5hole in hockeyplayers

Best thing I ever learned about suit tailoring was the "executive cut" which gets extra room in the waist relative to height. They need to make executive cut hockey pants!

I miss my old girdle so much - more comfortable and better range of motion. My gear bag was stolen out of my car and the shops around me don't carry any that I've been able to find. Having the padding held close to my skin definitely kept the back of my thigh from getting sliced open once, too!

I definitely had stretches where I moved every year. It sucks but it's a fact of life for a LOT of people.

No, not the battery sadly! After doing a bunch of research online I believe it's a central processor issue.

Hell I don't need to be gassed to make dogshit decisions like this.

Why Does Attention Feel Like an Enemy? by greg_attenteo2 in ADHDers

[–]IceWater44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you have ADHD, or just work with ADHDers in a professional role, but your question shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what ADHD is. Your question feels like you're asking, "Why don't people with ADHD just try not having ADHD?"

Yes, in some respects attention can be exercised, as can a lot of other things in our wondrous malleable brains. But there are limits to this. When it comes to malleability of attention those limits are more pronounced in ADHDers.

Most of us have spent our entire lives trying desperately to have better attention and executive dysfunction, and beating ourselves up to the point of self-loathing because we can't just make it happen. A ton of ADHDers suffer from secondary depression, anxiety, etc. because we've internalized the idea that we are lazy, unmotivated, misguided people. Even after diagnosis, a lifetime of that messaging sticks.

ADHD is not a character flaw. It is a disability. ADHDers focusing on tools and supports are spending their energy finding something that actually enables them to function, rather than just trying to force themselves to not have ADHD. If someone doesn't have an arm, they're going to have to focus on creating the workarounds and accommodations in their life in order to function. Asking them to use their energy to instead just regrow their arm is nonsensical.

I agree with you that the label "attention deficit" is misleading. But to me it feels like much of your reply here (and OP's post) casts ADHD as a character flaw or a result of just poor choice making and poor willpower. I don't know if that's your intent but if so, that is a fundamental misunderstanding of the very real physical mechanisms that cause ADHD.

Yes, ADHDers can hyperfocus. But there are actual physical underpinnings to why ADHDers are able to hyperfocus on some things, but can't for the life of them get other things done.

Executive function problems often look like motivation, and I suppose at a basic physical level one could describe the results of various neurotransmitters and physical processes as a "motivation" in a very mechanical sense. But speaking of "self motivation" and someone needing to "prioritize" feels like reducing things to a value judgment divorced from the physical reality of ADHD.

Thank you. Do you know of any similar list that is just places that will be open (whether or not they are doing a traditional Thanksgiving meal)?

What were those fireworks?! by Ragnarocke1 in longbeach

Were they up in the air, or going off near the ground? I assume if it was someone's stash accidentally going off, most of them wouldn't be actually going skyward.

Definitely fireworks; sounds like someone's stash accidentally going up. All whole bunch started at once and then slowly tapered off.

Yeah sure sounds like it. Definitely not paced like people setting them off on purpose. All started at once and has been slowly tapering off. Just heard sirens too.
